Border facilities are overloaded. They can't serve any more illegals claiming asylum. The next best-case solution is to send them to sanctuary cities/states to wait several years for their asylum hearings. What's the problem with that? Sanctuary cities/states have repeatedly stated they welcome illegal aliens as assets to their communities.

What would stop them from going elsewhere? Wrong question. Correct question is what would motivate them to go elsewhere? If you're a migrant, would you rather be in a sanctuary city in California or a conservative city in Oklahoma?
I'm not sure but it may be that they are released on parole and conditions of release are that they remain in a certain area.

There is a misconception propagated by Trump's piehole that his opponents want open borders like Europe. Fake news on his part. His opponents just want an orderly method of handling the immigrants from Central America - that might include working with those Central American gov'ts to handling their issues/crises causing the immigration. We've spent trillions helping Afghanistan and Iraq with nation building. It's time we help those countries to our south - especially since it obviously affects all of us.
There are other answers other than the wall with improved border security and handling asylum seekers.

Ask Governor Newsom and all the other sanctuary city/state politicians that question. They openly encourage and welcome illegal aliens to come and dwell in their cities and states and protect them from ICE once they're there, even if they commit crimes.
