The McDonald's employee, then-25, gave birth on her break, and a co-worker saw her holding the baby (who survived) face-down in the toilet. The judge also sentenced her to a year in county jail, and credited her with time served.

Same sentence a man would get, if he was caught trying to flush a newborn infant down the toilet??

Where is all that equality at now?

She probably told them it she was having an abortion , so all is gooooooood.

This world is a very sick place.

And she has custody? She's taking parenting classes?

So what's the problem? She didn't want a baby so...it is disposable...just a bunch of cells/tissue/fetal "stuff"...What? It was a full term "baby"? Still...she didn't want a baby so...she does have a right to choose, right? It's her life, after all...oh, and I guess the baby's life...uh...don't muddy this up with facts, please.

How cruel is this birth mother? there are numerous places to safely leave a newborn without risk of prosecution.

It's hard to think she can be charged with a serious criminal offense, when it's legal to abort a 24 week pregnancy in California, which is on the cusp of the age of viability.

Exactly.

Soon the state will allow parents to kill their children no matter what the age. Seems to be happening in CA.

She tried to KILL her baby. And barely a slap on the wrist.

It's all good, she probably kept the infant "comfortable" before she tried to drown him/her.

This is politics and "controversies" - and how the law handled this is certainly a controversy. Threads are continually moved here because they are deemed a controversy.

This is an example of someone who should have lost custody and had a mandatory tubal.

This is exactly what I was going to say...Why is anyone outraged by this? It was HER CHILD-HER CHOICE.

Im surprised the judge didnt toss the case out entirely though, basically any charges brought against her would have to be equally imposed on someone having an abortion, since they are not about to do that, she shouldnt have had any charges filed against her, Any lawyer could link the two together and call for the case to be dismissed.
