I know the Soviets coined this phrase over 75 years ago, but maybe we can dust off "The Great Patriotic War" and rebrand it for our own purposes as a sign of support for our struggling farmers.
Maybe we could start selling those magnetic ribbons again, this time with a tractor on it.
They’ll be gobbled up by Big Ag fairly soon then.
Well, alrighty then.
But "patriotic sacrifice" isn't what Trump ran on. As I recall, many of the folks that voted for him felt they were already being sacrificed, and were damn sick of it.
The farmers aren't feeling too patriotic--even the ones that voted for Trump.
"...Christopher Gibbs, an Ohio farmer who voted for President Donald Trump, tells CNN's Kate Bolduan he doesn't understand why farmers must make the sacrifices in the trade war with China...."
But I bet the red flyover states vote straight Republican in 2020 anyway, even as they are putting up their farms for auction. Anyone want to take that bet?
I'd bet on that too. As someone who has spent her entire life in "flyover country" and is the product of generations of conservative farm folks, I can tell you that it will take a LOT more than this to ever get the farmers in the heartland to vote against their basic principles. I have many family members who are small farmers in Ohio and Michigan and every one of them would stay home before they would vote for any of the Democrat candidates, even old "middle of the road" Papa Joe.
I'm sure the Dems would love to believe that Ma and Pa farmer in Guernsey County, Ohio will change a lifetime of party affiliation and loyalty and vote against their deeply held beliefs, but don't hold your breath. It is tantamount to expecting that Nancy Pelosi would suddenly wake up tomorrow wishing to be a Republican.

Yep. They will vote for the boot on their throat, cutting off their oxygen.
No one ever claimed there was intelligent life in flyover country. This kind of proves it.
