I know that some of you think that the two parties are identical and equally bad, but even though I don't agree, it's certainly true that they keep a tight grip. (On the other hand, though, I recently saw a piece explaining that strong political parties are what saves democracy from unhinged fringe candidates.)
Why Do We Let Political Parties Act Like Monopolies?

Protecting incumbents from their voters is one thing the Democrats and Republicans can still agree on. Through a series of anticompetitive tactics, the two political parties have created a hidden monopoly...

A representative republic is a type of democracy, like a square is a type of rectangle.

I disagree that Democrats protect incumbents from their voters. Democrats(the party itself) simply dont fund primary challenges. Technically, neither party does for that matter and shouldnt. Why would you primary your own member, you already hold the seat.
Democrats dont tend to gerrymander seats the way Republicans do.
The best example Republicans can use is Maryland while Democrats can point to the entire mid west.
I mean, a non partisan map in Pennsylvania too that state from 13-5 Republican to 9-9 and it could have been 12-6.

Bolded - Why do we need America to protect it's citizens from themselves.
How else can you expand bureacracy, erode individual liberty, and justify tax hikes to pay for it?
Free stuff wins votes...
Sadly when you explain tax cuts = you keep more of what you earn = free money. The concept doesn't sink in.
New welfare program or new good feelz scheme?
Yeah let's vote for that!
