I am black. I grew up in these exact neighborhoods in question. The black SIDE of town is a complete economic desert. Much of the crime is interpersonal issue between people that know each other and the issues are compound by poverty. Poverty=crime. In KC and most places around the country there are no "gangs". This isn't LA in 1988.

Looks like Green Mariner already busted up the little undercurrent of racist rhetoric presented in this thread. Atlanta with more black people and has a lower murder rate, because the economy is better there. People with money and things to live for don't commit as much crime.

Please stop spreading lies about places you haven't actually lived in. You live in ONE rural county in Missouri where there is practically no population. You know nothing about current everyday city like in KC.

I see why I stopped coming here. Blatant fables about stuff people never lived.
I worked in KC for over 20 years. Street gangs were quite common.

Lincoln has had 1 homicide (population 287,000), while St. Louis has had 61 homicides with similar population with 302,000 people.

Having spent time in the two there is a huge difference between the two cities that I have felt immediately.

Maybe it's time for all these liberal Democratic crime-ridden third-world cities to consider a Republican like Omaha did.

Omaha officially has 469,000 people, while KC has 492,000.

And most of Omaha's killings take place in North Omaha, which is the worst part of the city. Omaha being a Republican city hasn't been very helpful to North Omaha.

And Tulsa, Oklahoma is a Republican city. Plenty of gang violence there.

I was born in the 1980s. Much of what I know comes from living in the western USA and growing up in the South, particularly in the Atlanta area.

Now, older people are more likely to be mellowed out compared to older persons.

I grew up in a small, 8,000, all white town in SW Mo. We had street gangs here in the 1950s.

Lol...Kansas City is a real city. Like, KC gave birth to Charlie Parker.

Charlie Parker could’ve NEVER in a million years come from Omaha.

Anyone that has an ounce of culture in their bones needs no further explanation than that. Omaha is lame, and that’s an understatement. Yeah, they don’t have a lot of murders because they don’t have a lot of anything worth talking about.

Maybe the next time my job takes me up to the Omaha area, I’ll go out and get some of their famous BBQ like I always do when I’m in KC.

Well, I merely brought up Tulsa because the OP likes to talk about how Republican cities are better. Tulsa, even with its oil industry, has the same problems you would find in Democratic cities. The Outsiders takes place in Tulsa. That gives me the indication that Tulsa was rough in the 1960s. And I don't delight in badmouthing Tulsa or other places in Oklahoma. I just bring it up to prove a point.

What kind of small town were you in during the 1950s?

Rural farming community.

That year in Wyoming, 1969, is an outlier. Wyoming, even with its old west history, has not been an especially rough state. Some rough occupations, but not an especially murderous state. I have little idea what was going on in 1969.

I went to look up Oklahoma. Oklahoma as a state has gotten more violent lately. However, before 2009, Oklahoma only cracked the top 15 for murder 3 times between 1960 and 2008. 1960 (have no idea what was going on that year), 1982 (likely something to do with drugs in those days) and 1995 (Oklahoma City bombing). Since the 1990s, rape has been a huge problem in Oklahoma, with Tulsa leading the pack in terms of rape.
