Bernie Sanders: "...in the richest country in the world, economic rights are human rights!" i.e. your property rights are now abolished
Just heard him say that in a televised speech, that he apparently made a day or two ago.
He didn't say your property rights were being abolished, but that's what his announcement boils down to. With the U.S. being the richest country in the world, the government will now assume the power to take your property (money) away from you and hand it to somebody else who did nothing to earn or deserve it.
In fact, our government has been doing that for a long time. There is no power listed in the Constitution authorizing them to do that, of course. But they have found that as long as they can get away with it, it's the same as having the power to do it.
Your money is your property, of course, just as the pencil in your pocket or the chair in your living room is. You can trade it, sell it, or give it away if you want to. But govt is forbidden to take it from you by force just to hand it to someone else.
Bernie is just being more honest about what he intends to do, than the rest of the liberals (in both parties) who intend to do it too.
For that reason, his days on the political race for 2020 are numbered.
The Democrats don't dare make somebody their standard-bearer who says flatly that he will steal from taxpayers - this will cause far too many protests and arguments they can't possibly win. The only way they can go on "transferring wealth" from one group to another, is to hide or disguise what they're doing. Pretend that's not what they're doing, or pretend that they have some authorization to do it, and hope people stop paying attention and let them get away with it.
The Fed has authority to collect taxes, of course. But it is only allowed to spend tax money on a few things: Defense, paying govt debts, and on programs that benefit everybody equally. Taking money from Peter to pay it to Paul who did nothing to earn or deserve it, helps Paul, but doesn't help Peter at all. The Constitution was carefully designed to prohibit that... to the dismay of socialists like Bernie who want to buy the votes of Paul by using Peter's money.
I am not aware (without looking) of any Constitution based restrictions on spending. If there was, we wouldn't be where we are. Unless it is explicitly prohibited, it is allowed.
Remember its important that this only applies to the poor and middle class. We need to all learn how to share and get along. Just don't trouble the billionaires and hollywood celebs with our petty problems.
Bernie Sanders didn't say anything about abolishing property rights.
Nope. It's just the only way to do what he says he wants to do.

TRANSLATION: If people keep pointing out what Bernie would have to do to accomplish what he says he wants, he'll lose more votes than Mondale did when he said he would raise taxes.

I'm not surrprised. That pubblik eddicashun always shows through, doesn't it?

And they inserted passages in the Constitution to forbid it.
The so-called Welfare Clause actually says that the Fed govt can raise and collect taxes, but that the tax money can only be spent on a few things. One of them is to help the "General Welfare", which in 1787 meant programs that would help everybody equally. A program that helps Paul by directly penalizing Peter, is the opposite of that, and is forbidden.
ALL so-called "wealth transfer" by the Fed govt is illegal. Tax money can only be used for things like building a new Federal building, dredging a river to ease travel from state to state, defending the country etc.
It is the most-violated part of the Constitution, having been (illegally) done so often that most people now assume it's OK.

If there was...and it were obeyed. But the liberals are careful to never obey it, as I pointed out above.

Glad to hear you agree. Because it IS explicitly prohibited.
Bernie Sanders didn't say anything about abolishing property rights. This is a very poor attempt at a smear job.
He obviously has people shook and has a good chance of winning if neoliberals and Trump supporters are resorting to putting words in his muth.
He did mention the collective, so your argument is out the window !!!
