Jeh Johnson, the secretary of homeland security during President Barack Obama's second term, told The Washington Post on Tuesday that some 2020 Democrats were pushing border-security reforms that might be ineffective and outside the immigration policies that most Americans want.

"That is tantamount to declaring publicly that we have open borders," Johnson said of the push to decriminalize border crossings. "That is unworkable, unwise and does not have the support of a majority of American people or the Congress, and if we had such a policy, instead of 100,000 apprehensions a month, it will be multiples of that."

I am a lifelong Democrat (Gen X'er).

My senior citizen mother has voted for every Democratic candidate for President from JFK to the present.

I AGREE with Jeh Johnson. The position that many of the "D" candidates are taking on immigration is just nuts. WTF are they even thinking?

Might as well just concede now because this sort of positioning will NOT win in Nov. 2020.

Professional activists have taken over the Democratic party and are using the primary system to force candidates to the left, regardless of the general election implications.

Democrats benefit from party poobahs in "smoke-filled rooms" choosing the candidate because their base has more of a tendency to be too extreme to win elections.

In contrast Republicans perennially need more energy in the grassroots.

The Democrats are playing a very toxic and lethal game no different than suicide by cop.
They will have no one but themselves for their undoing....................Good Riddance.

I have to agree, the democrats outrageous open border policy will only help get Trump re-elected. The majority of U.S. Citizens want a secure border and laws enforced.

The Democrats used to be the party of border security and anti illegal immigration. And not that long ago.

Default example of democrats actually falling prey to their own propaganda

Why is he being so kind to democrats?
'Foolish' is almost a compliment!

We have an example of democrats actually falling prey to their own propaganda.

Makes you wonder how dems distorted view of reality even allows them to get dressed, eat meals and brush their teeth.

Do they know they are not running for president in some drug cartel controlled pan American country or some SA banana republic ??????????????????

they are a train wreck in slow motion.

The Democrats have gone off the deep end. Most of their policies are not workable in our society. Pelosi and Schumer have lost control of the party. It's the party of the uneducated and unmotivated. Their immigration policies are beyond belief. Wondering when they're going to officially change the name to the Socialist party.

Part of the reason for the backlash today can be traced back to the lies of Obama. He promised the Hispanic community that he would address this issue the first thing if he was elected.

He did nothing.

President Obama’s immigration policy revolved around his promise to Hispanics, that he would “guarantee” an immigration bill within the first year in office.

Never in American history has a president abused his immigration and deportation powers as President Obama did during his presidential reign, consequently his commitment towards a sensible and secure immigration reform policy became the elephant in the room.

Many who condemn Trump only have themselves to blame.

I was floored and disgusted by the immigration responses given by the Dems at that debate. When everyone raised their hands for free healthcare for illegals. And for decriminalizing illegal crossings and refusing to deport anyone who crosses illegally if they haven't committed any other crime. It was like a gathering from hell itself.
