During the 8 Obama years, the democrats lost a RECORD 1,000 seats to the dying Republican party.......

It’s the Independents that count these days — they are the largest voting block now.

This fear mongering around "open borders" might work with the more ignorant among us, but those with two wits to rub together know that Democrats have always supported funding for effective border enforcement.

Democrats just believe in treating people, regardless of where they come from, like we would want to be treated were we in the same boat.

Republicans are all talk about this anyway. They had two years when they could have passed mandatory E-Verify with significant employer penalties. Nary a peep.

Republicans want to stir up their ignorant base about the evils of brown skinned people, but they don't actually want to do anything about immigration.

This, of course, is not lost on those who are able to think.

The party is mis-named.

'Republican' doesn't describe it.

It's not just the anti-abortion, anti-contraception, anti-women's rights, nasty talk about women business, it's the treatment of children at the border. Many conservative women are appalled. Regardless of all the hate-filled rhetoric, these are children. Many women, conservative or not, have a soft spot for children. Go figure.

Health insurance is another issue that is dear to a lot of women. Ask how many older white women want to do away with that socialist Medicare program. Or want to face a future where anyone with pre-existing condition can't get insurance.

How long until white women get enough of all the lies, all the fear mongering?

Well......................... with AOC and Omar dictating the course of the dem party, no one in their right mind (except extreme liberal whack jobs) will vote dem.

No elections are ever won by extremists and the dems are now officially the party of the insane. Can you imagine AOC and Omar as the heads of powerful congressional committees? Omar would probably try to establish Shariah law and get a caliphate installed in Minneapolis.

This won't be a baby boomer dominated society forever. Even if boomers are 100% Republicans, eventually Millennials/Gen Z are going to replace them.

Appealing to the same tired "Moral Majority" politics that dominated the 1980s may sell with boomers but it's not going to sell with younger voters. In about 10-15 years, there's going to be some major changes in our society.

I know. Crazy, eh?

The candidate who got three million fewer votes "won" the election.

I know. Electoral College.

But whether Republicans can count on that saving their bacon next time around remains to be seen.

Republicans will do their damndest to smear the Democratic candidate. They do it so regularly that there's a term for it, "Swiftboating."

Came about during a time when the Republican presidential candidate hid out in the National Guard and then hid out altogether once drug testing became part of the annual flight physical.

Republicans called the Democratic candidate a coward. This was the guy who actually served in VietNam, patrolling the Delta looking for stranded American pilots in an open Swift Boat.

Ah, those were the days.

If the younger generations actually voted by the same percentage that older voters do, the change could come next year.

Go to any polling place and you'll see the old-timers lined up six deep. For those that have difficulty walking in to vote are voting in their cars.

2016, 70% of eligible voters 60 and older voted.

Only 40% of eligible voters 18 - 29.

First, let me address this nonsense about Republicans operating on fear mongering, phony patriotism, and racism. Pure projection coming from a group of ideologues who haven’t produced a single positive outcome in three plus decades, while endlessly barking the same fear based nonsense .... be afraid black people ... be afraid Hispanic people ... be afraid gay people ... be afraid women ... the Republicans are out to get you! America .... listen up .... Donald Trump is a Russian agent!! Woooo ... be afraid ..... he’s a dictator ... he’s a racist .... he’s running concentration camps on the border .... he’s a modern day Hitler ..... but, this man is tireless because in his spare time, when he’s not persecuting everyone, he is secretly conspiring to destroy the earth because he refuses to destroy our economy to save the earth ..... day after day, 24/7, this is the the only thing we hear out of the left. At this point, it’s beyond comedy, and entering the realm of abject insanity.

So, what happens when you reach this level of insanity? You have unhinged lunatics hijack the party, and watch them destroy whatever headway may have been achieved via the aforementioned fear mongering. Now you have the Democrat leadership in fear of what will be next to come out of the mouths of such lunatics like AOC, Omar, and their ilk. Pelosi and Schumer can no longer focus entirely on attacking Trump, as they try to figure out how best to put a straight jacket and a muzzle on these radical loons capturing the daily headlines with their anti-American, anti-Semitic rhetoric that has now become the gift that keeps on giving to the Republican Party. The inmates have now taken over the asylum, and even long time moderate democrats are recognizing the disaster unfolding. Forget capturing the swing vote, and the independent voters .... they’re gone. It’s no wonder why we see this total comedy of a democrat debate, with bus loads of candidates all trying to one up each other in the race to the bottom, doubling down on a strategy that failed in 2016.

Republican Party dying? Haha haha ..... sorry to burst your bubble .... but hijabs, illegals, Russia Collusion, and radical anti-American rhetoric is not going to save you .... the democrat party has committed suicide right before your eyes .... you all are just to blind to read the death certificate.
So the blue wave in Congress was what? Fantasy?

A 100% vote with the Democrats to rally against Trump's racists tweeter rants is what? A divided party?

I agree with the article and the demographics of the older white voter supporting Trump. Many of them won't be around in 2020 to vote for Trump. He does not appeal to the Millennial's or women voters, and especially not women voters of color.

Trump is the Republican party and his shrinking base is not tenable. That was a valid point about the children of immigrants that will be eligible to vote in the not so distant future. America will never be an all white country. like it or not, it is what it is. The fear mongering from the right is a turn off to those of us who used to vote Republican but can no longer support a party of hate. There's a lot more like me out there who are not tribal, but Independent. There's a lot more in the Senate who feel this way but will sell their soul to the devil to get re-elected. That's not to say that they won't turn on Trump once they're re-elected and impeach him. Trump is not popular among his own party.
