Nobody has asked local LEO to enforce federal laws. What is being asked is cooperation between agencies, as it happens every day with every other local and fed agency. What Democrats have done is made laws that make it illegal for local LE to cooperate with CBP/ICE, this is very intentional, to protect illegals. A local LEO should be able to contact ICE if they suspect someone that they are already interacting with, of being in the country illegally. Just as they would contact any other fed agency if they suspected relevant crimes. Local and fed agencies regularly work on task forces together. Imagine if states made laws that prevented local agencies from working with FBI, DEA, ATF, IRS, USSS, USMS, TSA, etc.

Didn't claim that it's a legal requirement at all. Local LE should be cooperating with ICE, as they normally would with any other fed agency. It's absolutely ludicrous that they made laws to intentionally block them, only to protect illegals.
