Just curious on where a majority of us stand on illegal immigrants and border security:

1. Open up the borders and just let them all in (this means free flow of drugs and human trafficking as well) Amnesty for all existing illegal immigrants.

2. Secure the southern border, deport the "bad hombre's" and offer a merit based path to citizenship for the balance.

3. Secure the southern border, deport ALL ILLEGALS.

4. Other-explain in your post.

I really feel like Trump is in support of #2, which is a moderate stance compared to hard left and right opinions.

If you came in illegally, you should be deported and then apply to return. Period.

Trying to deport all illegals is practically impossible. The only way to accomplish that would be to require e-verify for all jobs and depend on self-deportation when the illegals can no longer find employment. If you actually did completely rid the country of the source of cheap labor that illegals provide, you would create a labor shortage that would drive up the wages of those who are competing with illegals for jobs, but you would also drive of the cost of those goods and services for consumers and lessen demand.

As far as actual deportations, they should be focused on the true criminals who represent a danger to society.

3. We don't have to deport them all just make the conditions so that they will most all want to leave.

You could get most to leave by requiring parents to show proof of citizenship when enrolling their children in school, deporting illegals that go into the ER following treatment and deport any illegal pulled over by police. We should also not allow any public assistance going to illegals.

That would probably cause half or more to self deport.

Yep, there's a compromise in there. Like you said Deporting all would be impossible, but a pathway "for all" is foolish. #1 should be "true criminals who represent a danger to society" Apparently these guys enter again and again.

I'm half way between 2 and 3

Chose option 4 - my explanation

I agree with everything in #2 but would add that we need to amend the constitution to state that American citizenship is based upon the citizenship of at least one parent of a child going forward.

IMO I do think we need to get rid of birthright citizenship and this should be a priority along with securing the border and letting those stay who are law abiding and willing to go through a process or serve in our military so they can become full citizens.

It doesn't have to be all or none. I'd say deporting 50% would be wildly successful.

Cut off all freebies, and you'll find that we don't need to do that much to fix a large part of the problem.

Option 2 makes sense to me I've stopped reading posts a long time ago from the people promoting some version of 3. I don't care what they have to say.
