It can be multiple tests and a relatively low bar, but no Reagan should have been in office his last year or two. I can't say whether or not Trump would pass.
I would also like some very basic intelligence tests - shouldn't a POTUS know how to spell, write and do math at an 8th grade level? How about Geography and Science?
It seems to be that the bar for POTUS should be higher than the bar for a state college!

I have seen people with PHD'S who I wouldn't trust to pay bill at a restaurant.
You can go to a hundred medical school pass EVERY tests to became the most "intelligent" surgeon in the world but, if you have ZERO mechanical aptitude and can't even use a simple screwdriver,..........!
And yes, I have seen very intelligent people who can't walk and chew gum at the same time.
The Constitution never claimed to be the be-all of Law. It is a baseline.

That’s because our forefathers didn’t think people like Trump, Biden, Palin, ,etc would be considered coherent enough to run for office . Times change, why is it okay to have someone in office whose mental health isn’t what it once was?

In short, I doubt it. The Art of Con is something that uses an certain intelligence, but not an IQ or cognitive one. It's more about having a straight face when you lie.

That was my thought too. The voters are, and should be, the decider of such things.
If we implement a test to qualify politicians, so we only have sane people with some measure of intelligence running for office, I guess the logical thing would be to implement a test for voters too....so we only have sane, intelligent people voting for sane intelligent politicians. How's that sound?

Bingo! As they say, "what is good for the goose, is good for the gander".
Judgement is directly related to intelligence...in fact that is exactly what it is. Proper judgement means learning from experience which only an intelligent person can do.
That's the reason why low IQ people are often serial offenders.....
Taking the POTUS as an example - he has actually LOST 10's of Billions of dollars in his life compared to what he'd have if he put his money in a mutual fund.
A normal person would learn that and not keep making cons, frauds and bad bets...because all that happens from them is lose-lose-lose.
But a person with poor judgement or low intelligence would not realize they could change course and invest a billion in a Mutual fund and then have 10 billion in two decades.
You could definitely make a case that an IQ of 140 or above is not needed for POTUS. But it's hard to imagine that anything under 120 is going to be able to do the job.

MANY successful people who are wealthy today took risks over and over BEFORE finally becoming successful.
My guess is you are not very wealthy because you are too chicken to take risks.
This great county is BASED on those willing to take great risks. It is too bad so few today are wiling to do so. Must because of all the spoiling parents do today.
If that means someone who smarter then a fifth grader I’m all for it, then again conservatives choose someone who ISNT smarter then a fifth grader.

Trump is the one doing it correctly. A left hand to right hand hand shake is incredibly awkward, both in how it feels and in how it appears. Trump understands that. Too bad you don't.
