So you agree that you could be talked into being homosexual?
Or maybe they were bisexual and made a choice?
People respond to incentives. They also respond to genetic programming and other things, but it's silly to pretend that incentives and encouragement don't matter.
Astounding that people still think you can choose your sexuality. But it does give context into homophobia. Afraid that with the right temptation and circumstances they could go gay.
Why do we need a special group to talk about bullying? Bullying is wrong no matter the reason, so where is the need for a special LGBT bullying conference?
It's not like this is exclusive of any other such efforts.
I know that if I had a gay son who was struggling in those formative years and needed to hear that things do get better from an older peer rather than from a parent/teacher I would be grateful for that.
If something like this saves just one kid from suicide, what's the problem exactly?
This is the delusional position articulated by many in this thread.
The idea that middle school students are somehow pure unsexual beings and will be corrupted by any discussion of sexuality.
The reality is that most middle school students that are surrounded by a closed minded environment where discussion of sexuality is forbidden or taboo will instead get their sex education from hardcore pornography. Would the parents prefer that?
The parents should teach them. That's their job not the schools job.

Of course you can. All you have to do is go have sex with whomever.
Are you saying that the lesbians I spoke with are lying and because they chose to have sex/relationships with women that they aren't really gay?
Isn't that a form of bullying? Are you in favor of bullying when people don't fall in line with your agenda?

Then make sure when you have a son you teach him all about how to be gay. Problem solved.THat's on you as a parent to teach your son the values you want him to have.
Suicide is a form of mental illness. Not a social construct. And risk of suicide increases greatly in populations with histories of mental illness and high rate of substance abuse, both of which are rampant in the LGBT community.
Yet another story about K-12 students being taught to question their identity and sexuality. Such a sick agenda. Better see what your kids are being "taught" in school. Now Cal Berkeley is offering college credit to go indoctrinate middle schoolers with this agenda.......
Your link makes clear the target audience is Middle School and High School aged students, not K-12 as you indicated.
The intention of this student led course is to prepare one 300 word narrative for each of three modules, Berkley’s lGBTQ Community, Ally share and Combatting Bullying with a chance to speak at Pacific Center’s Speaker Bureau at schools, as opportunities arise.
It takes about one minute to deliver a 300 word narrative.
Nothing indicates any middle school or high school participates.
Most big schools offer student- led courses on thousands of topics. Noticed some of Berkley’s offerings include Actuary Test Prep, Photoshop and many green initiatives.
As it relates to the Bear Closet course, learning how to pare down a message to 300 words- 1 minute could be useful for many people, regardless of content.
Whole deal sounds like a place for Berkley’s students with LGBTQ interests to share amongst themselves and the LGBTQ - oriented Pacific Center and get credit for it. Lots of pizza parties too.
Yeah, it would obviously depend on the content of such talks too.
I'm presuming anyway it's more of a "It gets better" sort of life experience talk to help prevent teen suicide rather than explicit sex talk. This source seems to be trying to imply the latter without actually saying it.
The purpose of this course is to learn how to prepare three 300 word narratives about the Berkley’s LGBTQ community, Ally Share and Combatting Bullying. It takes about 1 minute to deliver a 300 minute narrative.
Nothing indicates students will actually communicate 1 minute narratives to Middle- High School audiences.
Thinking it’s more about “ what would you tell your 13-18 year old self.”
Learning to pare down anything to 300 words is easier said than done and a valuable skill.
Remember when they used to say "we only want equality" when questioned about indoctrination.
Now they are openly indoctrinating children, those who are the easiest targets to manipulate.
What a shock! They were lying all along.
In other words, you fear that straight children will become gay through being indoctrinated that gay sex feels as good or better than straight sex?
