I really hope they don't get away with it.

"The Chapter 11 filing is expected to lead to the ultimate demise of a company that sold a fraction of the opioid prescriptions in the United States but nonetheless is most closely identified with the epidemic because of its pioneering role in the sale of narcotic pain pills. The company used aggressive, allegedly misleading, sales tactics to push physicians to prescribe millions of doses of its dangerously addictive pills."

Im sure the drug cartels are jumping for joy over this news!

Its really great that criminal organizations collude with US federal drug enforcement agencies to ensure they have ZERO competition in their most profitable sales territory!

So a company sold a legal and heavily regulated product. The product must be prescribed by third party highly trained and licensed medical professionals who have independent knowledge of the issues with the company's product. Also, he product has a built in safety mechanism. While the product has plenty of legitimate uses, it's susceptible to abuse. Everyone involved knows this, including the regulators who approved it.

The medical professional vastly overprescribe the product, usually knowing full well that many of their patients are abusing it, often doing so specifically for profit. The end users specifically bypass the safety mechanism to facilitate their ability abuse the oriduct.

But since the manufacturer is the deep pocket, they bear all liability because the lawyers and the government need to get paid.

Not all. Doctors that were knowingly prescribing to lots of abusers have been getting prosecuted too.

This is all being done to ensure the supply of opioids to the US remains unregulated.

Yes and meanwhile there is enough heroin and Fentanyl coming in CONSISTENTLY, to keep the entire nation supplied...dont you think thats a bit suspicious?

What we truly need is a class action suit against the DEA, unraveling that ball of corruption putting a stop to it would help tremendously with this problem, they are basically the drug cartels lobbyists and enforcers in the US.
