It is interesting how both the Left and Right will quote the Bible, sometimes out of context, to justify their views.

I liked smoking pot when I was younger the few times I had it - I got tired, hungry and had no inhibition. Like getting drunk on alcohol - you tend to loosen up - maybe a bit too much. If people want to use it recreationally - let them but then have the same enforceable laws that we see for alcohol
The author of the article, Gary Dull, is the executive director and vice president of the Pennsylvania Pastors Network.

The president is Sam Rohrer, a republican who served as a state representative for 18 years and then ran for governor of PA in 2010 as a republican.

Safe to say Dull's a republican.

They also like to quote government edicts (AKA laws) as being some sort of prerequisite for morality or logic.

Drug laws, taxation, and gun laws are all unequivocally immoral but supported by nearly everyone.

Boooo-ring. Couldn't you change it up a little? No one ever accuses anyone of Trotskyism any more. Or Stalinism - or even Maoism? Bolshevik-Leninism? Is Hegelianism a thing? Lysenkoism, I guess, is better suited for strict scientific debate.

I'm a public school graduate.

Blame the collective for my lack of inventiveness.

According to members of the Pennsylvania GOP, "the Word of God makes a clear connection between drugs and the occult, implying that the unwise use of certain recreational drugs can lead to having the minds of the users open to wickedness and demonic activity." Nevermind the fact that the Bible doesn't mention marijuana, period. Yet, Republicans always find Biblical justification for their tyrannical authoritarian impulses even if it requires taking verses drastically out of context.

This is why despite soaring support for legalization of weed, I believe we are still likely a good 15-20 years from it becoming a reality. The Christian Right controls the Republican Party and they will never allow it to happen.

Something is wrong in this country that despite two-thirds of Americans supporting legalization, the views of pastors and staunch authoritarian traditionalists are the only views that matter.
And, WE are the only ones who can ever change this!!!!

Part of the blame does lie in Govt, but a large part of the blame is on the general public too imo, for we have sat idly by and permitted Govt to behave this way for so long, if they are not representing the will of the people anymore...WE HAVE THE POWER TO REMEDY THAT (and its not by voting them out either).

Meanwhile back on planet earth the PA legislator dominated by Republicans in both the State House and State Senate passed medical marijuana in 2016, it's only a matter of time before it's legalized.

I'd give it even less time if the federal restrictions are lifted, technically it's still a federal crime. To reiterate that legislation will be passed by a Republican dominated legislator here in PA.

But remember, its not the GOP or dems that can do this...its the DEA who determines drug scheduling!!

They have reiterated a number of times, that they will not even consider lowering its schedule, so its unlikely they will do away with the federal laws altogether.
