Most historians would laugh at your ignorant view of history.
Before you accuse someone else of ignorance, perhaps you should brush up on your history. In 1860, the Democratic Party WAS the party of slavery. After the Civil War, it was also the party of the KKK, Jim Crow, and segregation. It was the Republican Party that freed the slaves, affirmed that African-Americans were citizens, and gave them the right to vote.

I am not suggesting that the current day Democratic Party is racist, but its past is highly racist.

Since you saw the white and colored water fountains, you did notice that it was the democrats who owned the South then, right?

The democrats owned 99.9% of the slaves. That's who needs to face up to slavery and their racist past and present.
Will your party face up to Jim Crow they watched happening? And they did nothing to stop it.

I have never denied the south was controlled by democrats. My state won it's independence from Mexico so they could keep the slaves Mexico and Spain told Moses and Stephen would not be permitted.

My DH's relatives did own slaves. When the patriarch died, a KKK outfit was found among his things by his daughters.

But when his father died, big daddy spit all the property between his white and black kids equally. He had a wife and a black mistress down the road. All his kids got equal shares. And the white kids always treated their half siblings with respect.

One can say the same thing about "the south". It was the strong hold of slavery, Jim Crow and racism. Today...its nearly ALL RED STATES.

Parties change...just like people. Up is the new down.

Well that alone undermines one of the reasons for reparations, as why should the northern states and the west who did not have slavery, be made to pay for it?

Also are you for or against so called reparations?

As to the overall nonsense of reparations, the Democrats who advocate for it should pay it themselves, since it was members of their own party who perpetuated and fought keep slavery alive.

Maybe they can split the cost with the countries that brought it to the North American shores before we were ever a country, such as Spain, the Dutch and Britain.

What's wrong with government spending, Team Red?

Won't have enough money to drone strike a baby in Yemen?

Sure you will because you and Team Blue are both mooching socialists. You just like to spend the ill-gotten booty on different things or more appropriately...at different percentages.

Your grasp of the situation is so superficial that I am actually embarrassed for you. It isn't about charity. It is about justice.

Why do you think we have spent so much money on freeways and subdivisions where minorities were denied mortgages.

Unless and until we all face up to what slavery did to the slaves and the owners, our culture will never get past it.

Don't forget, even while slavery was happening, plenty of people knew it to be wrong.

And most people currently supporting reparations have not now, nor have they ever suggested money be given to individuals.
The fact is that for you and other leftists (and most blacks), it is impossible for "that day" to ever come. It would never be ALLOWED to come.
Two simple reasons why:
Big Grievance is a huge industry.
And the left would lose tons of political power if that day ever was allowed to come.

No one is "prevented from building wealth".

Aside from cases of actual theft, no one in America is poor BECAUSE someone else is rich.

That's not the way wealth works.

Democrats blame people of color with the soft bigotry of low expectations.

And I'm not "blaming the victims"....

Because the only "victims" are the ones Democrats create in order to pander to black votes.
