This is so typical.....when no one is looking the Republican leadership does the complete opposite of the Will of the People. Why even have Ballot Measures if they are just pretend?

Meanwhile, Desantis also continued doing little or nothing about the horrible pollution and Red Tide - and now, just as the season starts, there are major outbreaks of the deadly algae all along the West Coast.

It would be really nice for Florida to actually do what people voted for (they voted long ago for money to fix the Everglades which would help the Red Tide, etc.).
He's a Trump flunky--and acts like it. Nobody really expected him to act any different than what we've had--ratsnake Scott, corrupt Bondi, hypocrite Rubio--Desantis is just more of the same.

The OP knows very well that Florida's Ron DeSantis has approved Millions of Dollars in Red Tide Research, and Billions to rebuild the Lake Okechobee water retention walls so more water could be held in the lake, as opposed to releasing it into canals where it could later cause harm. President Trump also sought Billions of Dollars for this water retention improvement, but thus far Nancy Pelosi's congress has blocked the bill from being passed. The Democrats are playing politics with Florida's environment.

Florida's Governor DeSantis has been applauded by both the Miami Herald and the Orlando Sun Sentinel for his environmental accomplishments thus far. So, we have TWO left leaning newspapers applauding their State's Conservative Governor.

I rate the OP's comments as: MOSTLY FALSE! He's trying to take advantage of Americans who might not be familiar with Florida politics. Florida's Red Tide this year is much less severe than last year, and tourism has been up up up since the Great Recession eased. Red Tide has not made a dent in Florida's economy, or tourism growth. 2019 will be yet another record breaking tourist season, and Republican Governor Ron Desantis will continue to win praise from both sides of the aisles for his environmental achievements.
There you go, educating the people on the issue. Don't you realize that opinions here are formed on emotion, not facts?

OP, you and other Democrats continue to spread nonsense on this topic.

The ballot initiative in question read:

Quote:
This amendment restores the voting rights of Floridians with felony convictions after they complete all terms of their sentence including parole or probation. The amendment would not apply to those convicted of murder or sexual offenses, who would continue to be permanently barred from voting unless the Governor and Cabinet vote to restore their voting rights on a case by case basis.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_Florida_Amendment_4

Paying court-ordered fines/costs/restitution IS part of completing "their sentence."

The only ones who seem to have contempt for the will of voters, thus, are Democrats and their lying MSM counterparts.

As a resident of Florida, Desantis is an embarrassment to our State. He barely won, which shows how many people feel the same way I do. He is also a Trump boot licker, which only further reinforces my feelings about him.

This is a perfect example of a Republican politician trying to limit voting rights - straight up voter suppression.

He's trying to add his own clause to the constitutional amendment which was passed in 2018 by 70% of Floridians, by removing the ability of voters to vote for US President, US Senate, US House of Representatives(federal elections).

The constitutional amendment which was passed via 70% of voters didn't only give state and local voting rights to felons(it didn't exclude voting rights in federal elections). The Republican governor is trying to fix the next federal election by suppressing the vote for felons even though 70% of Floridians passed this constitutional amendment and the amendment didn't have any wording about suppressing/eliminated voting rights for federal elections.

Disgusting.

Ahh. You got that self righteous thing going. But you got one problem. None of it is true.

  1. Florida did vote to restore the right of convicted felons (except murderers & sex offenders) AFTER they completed their sentence AND paid all their fines and court ordered restitution if any.
  2. This is not in contention. It has not been implemented DUE TO LAWSUITS. The GOP had nothing to do with that.
  3. The OP now chooses to obfuscate the matter by confusing it with an effort by a Democrat to circumvent the above litigation process and change long established clemency rules that cover a lot more than the vote. THIS WAS NOT APPROVED BY THE VOTERS.
It's another example of jingo journalism, and the weak minded and easily influence falling for it time after time.

Hah, Red Tide is not as bad this year?

Well, being as many MILLIONS of fish and mammals and birds died in the biggest red tide LAST YEAR, there simply isn't much left to kill.

What a joke!

Florida Politics? No, we are talking Florida environment. The first post link DOES go to one part of politics - that one being that DeSantis threw the will of the voters into the trash.

It's only been for the last 20 years that a yearly red tide has occurred. The one last year was, by many measures, the worst in recorded history. The policies of the GOP in Florida state that it is all "natural" - even the billions of gallons of poo released in the water is "natural".

The People of the state of Florida voted a decade (and more) ago for big spending to clean things up. Rick Scott reversed ALL of it and he and the current lackey refuse to even regular CESSPOOLS. That's right, in Florida (water world) you can just have a large round hole in the back yard that your toilets empty into....which, of course, gets carried away by the rain and groundwater.

In any case, it's sad to see DeSantis and his voting rights snuffing.....being as Rick Scott was already considered the worst ever when it came to that and now DeSantis is actually beating his record.
