First it was an extra $2,400 per year for Social Security with Elizabeth Warren's proposal. Now, Democrat Pete wants to give $90 a day for long-term care like home health and assisted living which is over $30,000 if a senior needed a assistant each day of the year and then there are millions of in facilities that would be eligible for this expensive new benefit.
The average nursing home room is $275 a day and many of them have no or slim profit margins at best already. So this would mean they would pay $185 a day instead.
This is a very expensive proposal though. The cost of this is over $30,000 per senior per year who needs a home health aid or is in a facility. Millions or possiblty tens of millions of senior could have this benefit all year long and it would end up being a very pricey new expansion even though it sounds good.
The $30,000 value of this program if a senior needed a home-health aide or was in facility, would be the same amount as OASDI and Medicare for each senior.
Considering millions and possibly tens of millions would be eligible for this program each year it would be a very pricey program and is just another Democrat bribe for votes.
Overall, this is will just transfer some of the liabilities of the state government to the federal government.
I agree that there home-health workers should have a $15 an hour minimum wage. I don't believe $15 an hour minimum wage for all jobs, but $15 is the bare minimum that hard-working home health workers should make.
Since his plan does have limits, it will just delay for a few months the inevitable need for Medicaid and most will end up on Medicaid anyway.
