Maybe Mayor Pete was falling asleep.
Nobody with any sense pays attention to the Dailywire.
It's doing Russia's dirty work dividing and triggering wingnuts.

Speaking of the US-Mexican War, former President Ulysses Grant said, "I was bitterly opposed to the measure ... and to this day, regard the war which resulted as one of the most unjust ever waged by a stronger against a weaker nation." He even opined that the Civil War was divine punishment on the U.S. for its aggression against Mexico.

It was theft, plain and simple.

That said, I agree that any claims about illegal immigrants reclaiming stolen land is ludicrous and non-sense for many reasons. One of which, as you point out, is the very small number of people who actually resided in Mexico's "northern territory" back then. In addition, illegal immigration from Mexico is (mostly) a thing of the past.

He always nods when people are asking questions, it’s his baseline behavior. If you actually watched any of the debates or interviews with him, you’d see that he does this quite frequently, even when he is being criticized. Nodding when someone makes a comment doesn’t necessarily mean the nodder espouses the statement, it could also mean that they understand the question or the point being made.

If I was having a respectful conversation with someone I would probably do the same thing even if internally I thought it was ridiculous, because I try to respect different viewpoints even if I personally disagree.

If he were a passive participant, like an audience member, and nodded, I could see it being construed as a nod in agreement. But as someone who is participating in a dialogue, body language rules are a bit different.

Trust me, if Mayor Pete really felt that way, he wouldn’t be getting the shade from AOC that he’s getting.

But nice try!

It seems like competition for uninhabited land and stealing aren't mutually exclusive.

It is true that the land was extremely sparsely populated. Only 1% of Mexico's population lived in the northern half that we took (which is why Mexico had initially been encouraging immigration there to help prevent a European power from taking it over).

However, it was claimed by Mexico. We did take it by force even if we paid for it after the fact.

If some country invaded the vast expanses of Alaska today would we say it was stolen or mere competition for uninhabited land?

It seems to me that all partisans need to just take a step back. Agree or disagree with the underlying point, nodding in agreement with aq view of history is not treason.

We are belittling so many of these terms by flinging them around to shock and get attention. Treason is an extremely serious crime. This isn't it. no matte what you think of the underlying issue.

What about the land that was taken from the First Nations by genocide. How do you feel about that?

There was no "uninhabited land" in the 1800s. You forget the First Nations people lived there for millennia.

They didn't believe in owning land.

Except when they were killing each other for it before whitey got here.
