We need politicians who actually WILL fix it. So far we have only one: Rand Paul. All the rest form both parties will always say "but the other guys".

Dems make no bones about it. They are open about their intention to spend more, but they are also open about collecting more taxes in order to pay for it. Republicans are always talking about balanced budgets etc, but they ALWAYS do the opposite by ramping up spending way more than the revenue.
Did you support Rand Paul when he was running for President ? If this was the most important issue for most voters why didn't Paul win the nomination ?

Japan has had worse debt and yet experienced deflation.

Please note, I do not condone the way Bush-Obama-Trump ran the budget. In a lot of ways deflation would be worse for the debt.

And there is your improvement in the economy....financed by increasing levels of government spending and tax cuts.

No. Its easier to pay it down when you first stop running it up.
That seals the democrats fate in 2020. the left will shun the democrat candidates offering free stuff to anyone who happens to be in the USA.

That's what happens when you invade and trash a country and put it off budget. Obama considered war should be in the budget.
