Trump will give the speech but this time he will have a huge letter "I" forever branded on his forehead like a proverbial scarlet letter. All of the Democrats will be there, none of them will want to miss seeing it.

They were stuck between two unenviable spots: a) a potentially very angry and energized electorate, and b) getting cut off from the DNC campaign funding trough, or worse yet, having the DNC fund a primary challenger. Given that calculation they probably took the route less likely to get them ousted.

Then of course the's the one who's gonna try to squeeze out of that vise by switching parties.

We'll see how it plays out in 11 months.
