The play was never approved so it's all on the teacher.
While the concept wasn't bad, accurately teaching history as best as possible from all sources, who in their right minds in this hyper sensitive PC age of ours would think it a great idea to do this (unapproved) play in the first place? And THEN cast two black children as slaves, all without notifying parents or the school of this beforehand?
Do people not have situational awareness these days?
A Connecticut community is divided after a white elementary school teacher was put on administrative leave after casting two black students as slaves in a play.
Carmen Parker told the New Haven Independent that her 10-year-old daughter came home last week and said that she'd be playing Enslaved African 2 in "A Triangle of Trade," a play at West Woods Elementary School in Hamden, Connecticut. Parker's child, who is in the fifth grade, is biracial.
Her classmate, a young black boy, had been cast as Enslaved African 1.

She was teaching history the way it was. Snowflakes are outraged that history wasn’t revised and were triggered.

Even 20 years ago, it wasn't taught that accurately. The image I have of middle school teaching on the subject is one of white people running around Africa with big nets catching Africans. They never talked about the slave traders, who they were, and how they got their slaves.
The white people were basically buying a commodity that was commonly used in economies of the west. The teachers never taught about all the other countries that had slavery. South America is never mentioned or brought up, even though slavery lasted longer in Brazil than it did in the USA. They teach about slavery as if America invented it and we were the only country that allowed it for a time.
Not defending it, but slavery was not just some evil American institution. It was very common in the west, and each nation did what they had to do to get rid of it.
