Plenty of big social democratic, FDR-type mainstream parties in Europe label themselves as socialist.
You said that crazy Bernie doesn't call himself a socialist. Obviously, he does. And this is the definition of socialism that I use.

Definition of socialism

1 : any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods

2a : a system of society or group living in which there is no private property
b : a system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state

3 : a stage of society in Marxist theory transitional between capitalism and communism and distinguished by unequal distribution of goods and pay according to work done
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/socialism

You claim he calls himself a "democratic socialist." Alright what do these democratic socialists support?
Article II of their "constitution" states:
Quote:
We are socialists because we reject an economic order based on private profit.... We are socialists because we share a vision of a humane social order based on popular control of resources and production, economic planning, equitable distribution, feminism, racial equality and non-oppressive relationships.
https://www.dsausa.org/about-us/constitution/

So when it comes right down to it, socialism, and democratic socialism, are the same thing. Glad that's settled.

No matter what he calls himself, Bernie's policies would be a complete disaster. 60-100 trillion dollars over 10 years? Where do we find that?

By OP's logic, Sanders must be trying to scare himself.

Sanders is a persuaded socialist, which is why he describes himself with the word.

Pundit Ben Shapiro played a whole litany of quotes from Bernie advocating nationalization of various industries, praise for the old USSR, etc.

He has sometimes tried to fuzz the issue with references to Scandinavian countries, none of which are socialist; they're 'social democracies,' i.e. capitalist, but with large welfare state programs.

Democratic socialism is just socialism achieved via elections. Hugo Chavez was a Democratic socialist. On the rare occasions where an election did not go his way, he generally honored the result.

It still did not work out very well for Venezuela. The diaspora was already well under way when Chavez died in 2013. After that Maduro took over and pretty much turned it into dictatorial socialism by rigging elections.

You're probably right.

Also gerrymandering.

Wrong.

We are a great society who provides opportunities, not guaranteed results.

Results , more often than not, are closely related to drive and personal initiative.

Great societies do not mess with the correlation, nor the results.

No, an ethical society demands that all citizens ensure their own welfare, even those at the bottom.

They aren’t socialist countries. In fact, they bristle at people such as you misrepresenting them for your own dubious purpose.
