100% agree. Starting with the U.S. Constitution, and ruling any other laws null and void if they are hostile to it.

A proper judge should be neither.
The Constitution is a conservative document, calling for limited Federal government with only the power to do certain things, and freedom for "the states and the people" to take care of the rest.

Conservatives by their nature regard the Constitution as a framework on which the country is to be built and run. As such, they will obey and uphold the Constitution's commands.

But modern liberals see the Constitution as an obstacle in the way of implementing the unlimited government they want, wielding any powers the liberals feel might be nice to have, and disregarding the idea that the Fed govt has no authority to enact such laws and programs. They will evade and violate the Constitution at the drop of a hat, while declaring their supposed fealty to it on the rare occasions they make rulings that happen to match its commands.

"A proper judge should be neither"?

Nope. A proper judge should be conservative, since that's the philosophy that best supports the Constitution.

Conservative judges usually side with the corporate agenda, rather than with worker rights, so if Trump supporters don't like it they can lump it.

It's insane that the blue slip process went on as long as it did.

All those decades of losing policy battles because senators wanted to maintain decorum in the "most exclusive club in the world".

It's already been wild watching politics since the right stopped fighting with one hand behind its back.

It is not conservative or liberal - it is strict constitutional / precedence or activist / reinterpret. It's a damn shame that we have many on the bench that try to make laws instead of follow the laws.

That’s a pretty narrow focus when discussing judges at this level. Is that the only issue that’s important to you? Just curious.

Trump has flipped the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals out of wingnut leftist loony land back into being a more mainstream appeals circuit.

What he has not done is flipped the court in the sense that it now has more judges appointed by Republican presidents than by Democrat presidents. In fact, the current margin is 16 judges appointed by Democrats, 13 appointed by Republicans, and several of those appointed by Republicans lean a bit to the left.

So, hopefully the transformation of this court continues on the current track, but regardless, based on the progress already made, there are not likely to be as many cases from this circuit overturned by the SCOTUS as there generally have been over the last 20 years or so.

Outstanding post on the way our various district and the Supreme Court SHOULD be. Protecting the constitution as written should be the priority. If liberals have such a extreme case to change some part of the constitution, do so through the proper channels of Congress. They're called amendments.
