None. It’s one poor, convenient excuse. Reality is that half of Americans are resistant to anything deemed socialized, although many of them have benefited from social programs. The majority of those people are white.

I see we're dealing with those who like to frolic in the shallow end of the pool.

The logic is a variation of Lincoln's "You can fool some of the people some of the time..." In a smaller, more homogenous population, you can come up with a solution that may be agreeable to a large percentage of folks. With a large, diverse population, that happy medium will displease a larger portion. I typed slowly, hoping this would be more easily understood.

The Norwegians may have a point.
Torture the numbers long enough and you can get them to confess to anything. Your data may be true, but an American doctor in hand is worth two Norwegians out in their bush. See below.

See above about statistics. ...Pretty lame basis for conclusion. Maybe infected Chinamen have little desire to visit Norway and spread their germs. Norway certainly isn't containing the virus very well: US pop =3.3 x 10^8 with 4.6 x10^3 cases or 1.4 cases per 100,000 people...Norway pop 5.4 x 10^6 with 1.3 x 10^3 case = 2.4 cases per only 10,000 people. Deaths rates from CoViD-- US 2.6 per million Norway death rate 5.5 per million--Infection rate in Norway 10x worse and death rate twice as bad as US.

so, you work in health care. Is it direct delivery of care (doctor, nurse, etc), backroom delivery (pharmacy, lab testing), or administrative?

What do you see that needs improving in the system?
What are you doing to improve the system?

The U.S. bed numbers are controlled by state governments which require applications for “certificate of need”. Translation: the free market and actual demand does not determine the number of U.S. beds available.

The number of U.S. physicians? Determined by the qualifications that the AMA lobbies for in Congress and the state houses, along with federal funding and state funding of medical school student vacancies. Who gets into medical school is too often determined by federal loans , since private student loans barely exist, thanks to Obama.

Translation: access to U.S. healthcare is restricted by federal and state governments, and too many people on this board favor “more government involvement “.

Rich!

Here, I'll fix this for you.

Cases

U.S. 14.3 per million
Norway 262.5 per million

Minnesota 54 cases out of 5.6 million people.
Norway 1423 cases out of 5.4 million people.

I guess the world is waiting for Norway to develop that vaccine any day now.

Yup, it's sad. Why can't our federal health agencies get things right? Where are all the policies, procedures, rules and contingencies from all the planning we pay the the big bucks for?

It's like they cannot learn from their mistakes, cannot plan for just about any contingency, no matter how obvious it might be.

With COVID-19 it looks like the CDC didn't really have any plans at all, as to how they will test for and control the virus. They seemed to have been satisfied only creating plans and procedures for the common flu.

This is not about funding, it's about how the CDC goes about structuring itself, writing procedures, planning for dealing with outbreaks, how to test, how to acquire supplies, vaccines, and they just cannot seem to get it right.

Their strategy seems to be, to only plan for the common flu, and when, not if, their poor planing gets holes blown in it then they will suddenly spring into action and address it.

and most US cases are in Washington state, which is curiously close to Canada, and Canada is still allowing the free flow of passenger planes loaded with possibly infected Chinese to pour into their country. Makes a person wonder if the infections in Washington state were due to Canadian traveling into it, after being exposed.

I just saw this:

Canada to bar entry to travellers who are not citizens, permanent residents or Americans

So after allowing the free flow of travelers flying in from China for two months, the Canadians finally wised up.

Norway has tests. The U.S. barely has band aids.
