I never understood the disconnect people have here, perhaps it's just jealousy blinding people.

What is best for a company is best for their employees as well. If a company does well, people have jobs. If the company fails, no one has a job. You can always find exceptions, but it doesn't change the rule. A company can't employ anyone if they fail thus helping out businesses IS helping out workers.
I'm trying to figure out a good analogy for this. This is the closest I can come.

You are driving on a deserted road and come up on someone that is out of gas. You have a full tank and the means to transfer to their tank. Do you give them enough to get to the next gas station or fill their tank ? I'm okay with giving them enough to get them to the next station, not top off their tank.

Companies should receive enough to get them through this time, the push a manual car needs to start. And when this crisis is over, pop the clutch and the company can continue on under it's own power.

That isn't realistic. I've seen people making minimum wages able to save more than some people making $300k

People get paid what they are worth. If it isn't enough, make your worth more valuable.

Okay, help the companies. But make them agree first that every dollar they receive is spent on employee benefits, with zero going to the corporate C-suite. And if they violate that, they must give it all back with interest and a hefty fine.

Additionally I do not accept your characterization of corporate "welfare", especially under these conditions.

The term welfare typically applies to those individuals who cannot fend for themsleves, but is only suppose to last for brief periods of time.
Instead it has become a generational crutch for many who now feel entitled to be parasites off of fellow hard working Americans.

Money given to certain businesses to compensate (say farmers) for a trade war with a communist nation like China that has unfair trade practices is understandable and not indefinate. I do not call that welfare, but maybe you do.

If so, did you feel the money Obama gave to the auto industry was welfare?
Call it what you wish, - bail-out, hand-out, welfare, bribe, etc

Wouldn't you have been at least a little suspicious if the bank, and auto bailouts had been done in secret and possibly with strings attached? I know I would have been.

Governor Cuomo will get the help he needs once they get this figured out.

Those "people" you reference are workers - just as your thread title said.
Republicans want money for businesses . . . Democrats want money for workers - Stimulus Bill

Those "people"/Workers work for companies. IF the companies go under, the "workers" lose jobs.
Unemployment numbers went through the roof last week. IF the companies don't have the money to PAY the Workers/"people" while they are Sheltering in Place in places like New York State and California State and Illinois State, Tennessee State, Louisiana State ..... the Workers/"people" don't have any Money to pay rent, mortgages, medical expenses, buy food ..... LIVE.

The Democrats in Congress say they want more funds to individual Americans than to businesses. I say helping businesses is very important as most of those individual Americans the Democrats are pandering to are employed by American businesses (big & small). Save the businesses so individual Americans have jobs to return to after this shelter in place policy ends. Nancy already wrote and passed a Bill for extended & higher Unemployment -- now says she wants to extend that further 10 months. Plenty of time for that if necessary. She attempted to make it PERMANENT in her last Bill, just as she attempted to give Money to Planned Parenthood for Abortions.

Let's not forget that Nancy sent the US House home, McConnell kept the US Senate in session to work on a Bill to help people. Nancy flew back into Washington on her Taxpayer funded Broomstick to stop the Legislation that would have spent up to 30 hours debating a Bill. 5 Bi-Partisan groups spent the weekend working on parts of that Legislation. Nancy forced Schumer into STOPPING the entire process, because she has a "PLAN" to never let a Crisis go to waste.

We don't know for sure what the Leftist Plan is - I've listened to interviews all morning. One said she wants all the Money to go to the States that need it to cover their expenses because they are not able to collect taxes while people are not working. Bet you anything that it's the same as the 2009 Stimulus, which went to cover Union Pension payments and Union Salaries. Apparently Nancy wants an Infrastructure Bill in this Emergency Legislation, green energy funding and college loan forgiveness.

One thing is for sure -- whatever the Democrats are planning, it will be discovered. They won't be able to hide it. They are holding the American People Hostage over their Ideological Political Agenda.

This WILL backfire on them. It's a Naked Power Play that the public will not like.
The sheeple think it's great, but Normal People are not going to like it at all.

People get paid according to the amount of bargaining power they have. Bargaining power is not always correlated to skill or value.

Is a Saudi oil sheikh really 1000 times more valuable to society than a doctor who is saving dozens of lives per day? If Warren Buffett died tomorrow, would society collapse? Probably not, he simply owns the cash flows generated by business activity of others.

If a person is extremely wealthy, it means they have successfully captured the fruits of someone else’s labor.

Ultimately, capitalism is the extraction of value from labor via unequal bargaining power. The worker has to work under the terms dictated by capital, or he/she doesn’t survive. It’s not fair, but people defend it. Even a large fraction of the poor working class population defends it.

And if the unemployed workers run out of money, who's gonna buy what the company produces? The robots?

One thing for certain, this virus is going to be a big impetus for more automation.
