First, these cycles occur on the average about every 6-8 years or so. It has been at least 10 since the last big nose dive. We have been overdue. What is more, this is not likely to be the last one of these. So, if you have 10 more years to work, you are likely to see another one of these episodes -- before you retire! And then depending on how long you live, probably several more such episodes after that.

Second, since this is a regularly recurring feature of the world's financial system and has been since we have had a world financial system that could be identified as such, the way that you are going to recoup those losses is how? I know you know the answer, but I will say it anyway. By you and the rest of our country and our world getting back to work and rebuilding, yet again.
I think we all agree that "getting back to work" is how.

The disagreement (and I realize and respect that different people have different views on this) is whether we will get to work faster by acknowledging science, fighting COVID-19 and putting it behind us, or ignoring it, waiting on a miracle to cure us, and relying on hope.

yes, we need to get back to work. It is MY OPINION (based on practically every health and science official's advice) that we'll get back to work faster if we acknowledge COVID, rather than pretending it is not what it is. Fundamental difference on how to get to the same place, which is "back to work".

BTW: I've been working my tail off, every day. I am fortunate to be able to do my work from home. I see other colleagues, or maybe I should say I don't see them, who are taking this as a vacation. Every American, every employee can do their part. I'm doing mine. (And yes, I realize that some people are essential, and have no choice but to go into work. They are the ONLY ones that should be doing so, IMO. And by essential, I mean Doctors, nurses, Grocers, Critical Mfg., etc. I don't mean families going to PetSmart to run freely and look at the animals because they don't know how to entertain their kids without school and JumpZones.)

I don't think I'll be following the medical advice of a man who looked directly into a solar eclipse.

It is good to see that we have a leader who has a background in solving problems, coping with crisis situations and getting things actually done.
I wonder if the OP has checked Gallup's poll #'s lately.

Probably not.

Trump Job Approval Slides to 39%

President Donald Trump's job approval rating has fallen to 39% amid nationwide protests about racial injustice. His ratings this year had been the best of his presidency but are now back near his term average of 40%.
Since the OP used Gallup Poll's numbers as proof that, "we have a leader who has a background in solving problems, coping with crisis situations and getting things actually done," I wonder if he'll now agree that, 'we have a leader who has a no background in solving problems, is incapable of coping with crisis situations and getting things actually ruined.'

Gallup: Trump job approval rating matches all-time high (impeachment, poll, Clinton)
If below 40 is his all time high, then he is the most disliked president this country has ever had.

Of course when you start cracking skulls, and brutalizing peaceful people, your approval rating is going to take a hit.

Trump sliding in the polls, what a surprise.

I don’t know why he’s putting himself through all this. He’s horrible at the job, has no friends and isn’t leaving any great legacy from his so called administration. The country is wrecked by disease and strife, and the Dow just tanked by 1900 points because a second wave of corona outbreak is almost a certainty with more than 200000 death by September 2020. He hasn’t been able to offer the “best healthcare” ever....total failure there. NK is most likely nuke armed. Nobody in the world respects him as president....the world leaders mock him behind his back. His only support is from Folks who are losers in this new world economy.

I would be so ashamed and humiliated. He’s a supposed billionaire old old man. Shouldn’t he Try to enjoy what’s left of his time on earth? Such vanity and hubris.
