I'd say ZERO should complain. But, hey, people complain about everything.

Putting the world in even minor perspective, middle class people went to Miami (and the like) in the early 1970's for a airfare of about $300 per person. With inflation that would be $1700 plus today.

Maybe you should look closer at the rising inequality instead of asking why you can't have Bread and Circus to entertain you cheaply??

If they go out of business it is only because they were over leveraged. F them if they can not bear 5 months of inactivity. Their predominate assets are the ships. The ships will not sink. Someone will buy them out of Bankruptcy and start new Cruise lines.

eta: I think they avoid incorporating in the US because of labor and liability laws, not so much taxes,
to be fair, not many companies can survive 1 month without revenues.
heck, how many individuals can go 1 paycheck without being underwater?

The way they came up with this is exactly how government should work.

The Dems tried to pack it with crap that had nothing to do with covid and the Pubs put them in their place.

The Pubs tried to load it with elite class payouts (more crap) and the Dems put them in their place.

Now, hopefully we have a plan that is going to go exactly where it needs to with backstops.

Anyone, any company, any foreign entity, that tries to exploit this should be held in legal jeopardy and sued out of existence.

Again, regardless of opinions, Trump has made clear his intent to help out the cruise lines and will not need Congressional approval to do so.

We DK what “help” means, a grant or a direct loan or a loan guarantee.

If we cannot let banks go out of business how can we let a business or industry that actually provides a kind of tangible, physical service to people? Perhaps not largely to Americans, but there are Americans that do work on the boats, and work in the industry surrounding the cruises.

Ok banks store money, but you dont really need them to store the money. There are other avenues. Ocean Cruise vacation is bit harder and more exclusive to come by.

You can always buy yourself a boat, but wont have the entertainment service, and social atmosphere a cruise can bring you.

Exactly, they moved their ships out of our country so they could avoid higher US corporate taxes. Now they want US tax dollars to bail them out. No way. Let them sink.

They also moved them out of the country to have weaker worker regulations so they can pay some Caribbean person $2 an hour with less work place laws than if they paid an American.

They wanted out of our system - let them have their wish. Some investors will likely scoop up the shattered pieces in bankruptcy and manage it better than they did.

If cruise lines were to disappear human life would function as is.

I voted Yes let them fold. If enough people realized how unsanitary they are that would put them out of biz

I’ve thought since the beginning of this that there is something behind the desire to shut everything down and harming the economy. There is a desire among the left to use this event to see capitalism destroyed. The left wants to address the “inequality” you speak of and usher in an age of socialism. That was never going to happen in a prosperous capitalist nation. One of your sides operatives Rohm Emanuel said “never let a good crises go to waste”.....well the shutdown of much of the us economy is the fruit of that attitude. Where are most of the state ordered lockdowns?? Blue states. In red states urban lockdowns have been ordered by liberal mayors. Here in Tennessee the state House Democrats are demanding our governor lock us down. Why do leftists hate freedom and capitalism? Answer.....they plan to usher in socialism. This outbreak is their moment to do that.

The world should not be equal by the way. Those who are hard working, innovative or smart should have more than those who are lazy, unproductive and stupid. I know that offends you but most Americans still feel that way. I also don’t personally care about cruises, I get my bread and circuses elsewhere. Of course when your leftists are done I won’t be able to do what I like to do either. That is after all what they want right? I should be just as miserable as everyone else. Equal human misery and low standards of living for all. I don’t want your version of an equal society.....in fact I would take up arms against it.

The economic misery is the fault of every overreaction the government and media has taken during this outbreak. Every closed business is the fault of a state or local government (usually blue state or liberal city). The market crash was in part incited by media panic. All done for the greater goal of seeing capitalism fail and replacing it with socialism.

Should cruises be sailing? Because they would be a net loss right now no they should not. Would it be wise as a customer to get on one. No it would not. The reason I don’t use them is because of all the sickness on the ships. Coronavirus is just one of the many things that can spread through those ships. Still millions enjoy them and it’s a major industry that provides economic benefits to the greater economy. Painting them out to be some kind of useless industry as some on here are is just just plain wrong headed.
