On 20 January 2020, National IHR Focal Point (NFP) for Republic of Korea reported the first case of novel coronavirus in the Republic of Korea. The case is a 35-year-old female, Chinese national, residing in Wuhan, Hubei province in China

"A special report from Reuters noted that South Korean health officials gathered in late January 2020 and decided that the need for testing was urgent. South Korea’s CDC approved its first diagnostic test the following week, and by the end of February, drive-thru testing facilities that screened thousands of people a day were in operation. "

Quote:
On January 20, 2020, the CDC [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] confirmed that the patient’s nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal swabs tested positive for 2019-nCoV by real-time reverse-transcriptase–polymerase-chain-reaction (rRT-PCR) assay. In coordination with CDC subject-matter experts, state and local health officials, emergency medical services, and hospital leadership and staff, the patient was admitted to an airborne-isolation unit at Providence Regional Medical Center for clinical observation, with health care workers following CDC recommendations for contact, droplet, and airborne precautions with eye protection.
"When the first patient was diagnosed with COVID-19 in the United States in January 2020, President Donald Trump announced a set of travel restrictions on Jan. 31, 2020, that prohibited travelers from arriving from China, the epicenter of the outbreak. The restrictions also required American citizens returning home from China to be screened at airports and monitored for 14 days after their arrival. "

When a person (any of us) makes a statement of fact on the forum, it behooves them to check for back-up. While it can be (and is) missed by any of us at some time, most Trumpies don't seem to bother trying.

But here is what is going in his favor:

1) his poll numbers are actually rising and his approval ratings are hitting the highest in his presidency. People tend to rally to the President during times of crisis (justified or not). I still think he is atrocious but others apparently not.

2) While we don't know for certain how this whole crisis will turn out, CNN ran a story this morning quoting several Epidemiologists who think the worst of this could be behind of us in 3 weeks. That is, they think US deaths from Covid-19 COULD peak within 3 weeks. So the economy could open up at some point after that.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/25/healt...ist/index.html

Assuming those projections are right (of course, they could be wrong) and we can start to open up for business in 6 weeks or so, that gives the economy enough time to get moving again by November.

Under the above scenario, a total disaster is averted and the occupant in the White House won't be looking so bad.

If he (Trump) keeps....in an ultimate sense....listening to Dr. Fauci......and keeps...in an ultimate sense.....generally following what Dr. Fauci says.....he will probably escape any consequences/trouble his mouth might otherwise get him in.

"Trump is utterly unsuited to deal with this crisis, either intellectually or temperamentally"

"For his entire adult life and for his entire presidency, Donald Trump has created his own alternate reality, complete with his own alternate set of facts."

Wow, the article hits the ground running. Exactly what we have all been observing about the miscreant for the last few decades ...

"The qualities we most need in a president during this crisis are calmness, wisdom, and reassurance; a command of the facts and the ability to communicate them well; and the capacity to think about the medium and long term while carefully weighing competing options and conflicting needs. We need a leader who can persuade the public to act in ways that are difficult but necessary, who can focus like a laser beam on a problem for a sustained period of time, and who will listen to—and, when necessary, defer to—experts who know far more than he does. We need a president who can draw the nation together rather than drive it apart, who excels at the intricate work of governing, and who works well with elected officials at every level. We need a chief executive whose judgment is not just sound, but exceptional."

Trump is not the guy.
Truly stupid. No one else is the guy, either. Neither the past in this country nor the present in the rest of the world suggests that your comment is anything other than TDS.

Yep. And now Trump is begging South Korea to help us because they handled this crisis well and Trump ****ed it up:

South Korea says Trump asked for coronavirus testing kits, offers to send what it can

South Korea’s president said Donald Trump asked South Korea for help with coronavirus testing kits and other equipment, and officials offered to send what they could as the United States struggles to cope with the pandemic.

“Yesterday, U.S. President Donald Trump made a request to us for the urgent provision of test kits and quarantine products,” Moon said Wednesday during a visit to Seegene Inc., a Seoul-based company that develops diagnostic solutions.

The White House confirmed that the two leaders spoke on Tuesday but did not mention the request.

But according to his supporters here, Trump is doing just as good a job as South Korea is. As long as you don't look at any numbers or read anything factual that contradicts that fantasy, anyway. And Rachel has already stated in this thread that she absolutely won't.

THere's your timeline. (I am pretty sure we agree...)
One month ago, today, Trump set the tone at the top:

“The number of people infected in the US is going substantially down, not up and within a couple of days will be zero. We’re really prepared”.

And we, including state governors, believed his words.

And here we are hearing front line MDs and nurses in NYC describe apocalyptic conditions, while wearing Hefty bags.

Trump did not cause Corona. Trump cannot control Corona. Trump can’t cure Corona.

I agree with your overall assessment of Trump. I certainly hope he is fired in November.
The only poll that matters is one of likely voters.
Trump, like Bill Clinton, will probably win in November, thus becoming the third American President to serve 2 terms and never get 50% of the vote.
Clinton and Wilson were the other 2.
