S. Korea got a jump start on us, having the problem earlier.
Korea and the USA each had their first identified case on the same day.

When a person (any of us) makes a statement of fact on the forum, it behooves them to check for back-up. While it can be (and is) missed by any of us at some time, most Trumpies don't seem to bother trying.
I am as anti-Trump as anyone. That said, I am not sure I agree with the entire gist of the piece. Yes, the author is right that Trump is a "fountain" of misinformation and a self-aggrandizing con-man.
But here is what is going in his favor:
1) his poll numbers are actually rising and his approval ratings are hitting the highest in his presidency. People tend to rally to the President during times of crisis (justified or not). I still think he is atrocious but others apparently not.
2) While we don't know for certain how this whole crisis will turn out, CNN ran a story this morning quoting several Epidemiologists who think the worst of this could be behind of us in 3 weeks. That is, they think US deaths from Covid-19 COULD peak within 3 weeks. So the economy could open up at some point after that.
Assuming those projections are right (of course, they could be wrong) and we can start to open up for business in 6 weeks or so, that gives the economy enough time to get moving again by November.
Under the above scenario, a total disaster is averted and the occupant in the White House won't be looking so bad.
If he (Trump) keeps....in an ultimate sense....listening to Dr. Fauci......and keeps...in an ultimate sense.....generally following what Dr. Fauci says.....he will probably escape any consequences/trouble his mouth might otherwise get him in.
That's right, censor yourself. That is the best way to deal with cognitive dissonance.

China reported it to the WHO on 12/31/19. Trump denied it was a thing until early March, then got on board with reality for a couple days, and is now back to denying science.

One month ago, today, Trump set the tone at the top:
“The number of people infected in the US is going substantially down, not up and within a couple of days will be zero. We’re really prepared”.
And we, including state governors, believed his words.
And here we are hearing front line MDs and nurses in NYC describe apocalyptic conditions, while wearing Hefty bags.
Trump did not cause Corona. Trump cannot control Corona. Trump can’t cure Corona.
I was referring to a Gallup Poll that has his overall approval rating at 49% (the highest Gallup has recorded for him). That is just one poll...better to look at the average of all polls as 538 does.
I agree with your overall assessment of Trump. I certainly hope he is fired in November.
The only poll that matters is one of likely voters.
Trump, like Bill Clinton, will probably win in November, thus becoming the third American President to serve 2 terms and never get 50% of the vote.
Clinton and Wilson were the other 2.
