You add all the engineering, all the testing, all the approvals, all the red tape before a device is given approval by the FDA, lots of months/ yrs involved. Use to work there.
Well, where do you suppose the buck should have stopped on this one?

If I said we need to build a big stockpile of stuff for future disasters, where you’ll you even start?
It's already been proven that stockpiling doesn't work. I remember years ago old city bomb shelters that were long forgotten were being cleaned out finally. Most that was found was dated in the 1950's and it was a Billion plus disposal. This is why there are military surplus stores all over the US and military equipment surplus auctions nearly every month.

No city, county, state or country was/ is prepared for a once every 100 year global pandemic.

The world pretty much functions on a “ just in time” inventory model. There is no profit in building and sustaining surplus anything.

Trump and most recently and SIL Kushner, trip themselves up when their rhetoric creates a perception of Federal vs state stockpiles. Trump’s rhetoric in the midst of a crisis put states into competition with each other, FNMA and the world. This was unfortunate and a foreseeable, albeit unintended consequence.

If preparation for a once every 100 year global pandemic was a Trump Administration priority, Trump had 3 years to prepare and require all states to do so. It was understatedly, not a priority.

Surpluses are not a one and done thing. Stuff becomes damaged and / or obsolete, over time.

Trump seems to understand this on some level but gives into his base instincts to blame throw and sow division.

Ummm.................... you would not build things you don't need (or have an anticipated need).

EVERYTHING is obvious in retrospect.

Why didn't Nancy Pelosi and the dems focus on the coronavirus instead of impeachment?

Are there other events that are of low probability that you think the government should divert resources toward? Flood levies in the desert? Giant asteroid shields? Snow fences in Florida?

This has been going on for 16 years.
Yet Trump knows everything at least that’s what he tells people.

You forgot stripping away at ObamaCare, a corporate tax cut that went to stock buybacks, a policy that took immigrant children away from parents like Nazi Germany did with the Holocaust, and causing a government shutdown over his big beautiful wall. He did that all during the "collusion hoax" and "fake impeachment". So don't give me this crap about he was busy with fake impeachments and investigations.

Exactly. Hindsight being 20/20, and all that.

A REAL leader says "the buck stops with me." Trump doesn't do that and always deflects blame at someone else. Trump is not a real leader, he is simply a fraud. I didn't vote Obama either time, but he was a real leader. For all the bad calls W. Bush and Clinton made, they were real leaders.

I know it has become a reflex to blame a President, present and past. In this case, the article didn't place blame on any but rather on the private companies who in the process of being sold didn't follow through and also the bureaucracy of government not approving the original design because it wouldn't work on newborns.

It was a clusterfrak of missteps which was completely avoidable. The government has known for almost 20 years that we needed ventilators and, though they contracted twice to build them, still added ZERO.

Twenty Years = ZERO

This is how the government consistently fails at filling critical needs. They have no business trying to take over private HC/Ins. All we'd get is more of the same.
