Gov. Cuomo should temporarily shut down the NYC subways to help slam the brakes on the coronavirus outbreak, urge four City Council members.

“We believe that drastic measures must be taken to stop the spread of COVID-19 in our transit system,” the lawmakers — Robert Holden, Eric Ulrich, Mark Gonaj and Peter Koo — say in a letter to Cuomo.
I have to wonder...what is taking Cuomo or de Blasio so long? I thought they were supposed to be responsible leaders looking out for the safety of New Yorkers? Why are they allowing New Yorkers to spread this disease in such an irresponsible manner?

It's almost like they'd rather attack Trump than protect the lives of their citizens...

This is old news

There is virtually no one taking the bus. Subway is a mixed bag. Many people including first responders and essentials need mass transit. NY is mass transit centric city

If most of the city is shut down and social distancing, isn't traffic low enough for the few essential workers to drive? Seems like a little inconvenience is worth it to save lives....

Most people who work in NYC depend on public transportation to commute.

This includes healthcare workers, Police, Firefighters, grocery store workers, security, etc.

Many do not have cars. Parking is limited and very expensive as are tolls.

If it saves just one life, isn't it worth it?

The few essential workers?

There are likely more than a million people considered essential, right now.

You assume all have cars.

Where do they park?

I lived in NYC for over 20 years, and the fact of the matter is that few people in the metro area have a drivers license, let alone a car. Oh, and the DMV has been shut down for nearly month, so there’s no way TO get a license or register a car right now. My husband is an essential worker in NYC, and is able to hoof it 30 blocks from the train station to his job site, but many are not so fortunate, distance-wise, and need to use the subways.

From what I've seen from the videos coming out of NYC-the streets seem pretty empty, looks like plenty of parking at the curb. Now, I though NYC was "locking down" and isolating in place. I million people out running around really doesn't make it sound like that's the case.
