I don't live far from family, just a two-hour-drive, but I am in another state. Both of the states (the one I live in and the one they live in) have stay at home orders. So I wasn't gong to go anyway. But even if I wanted to go, the state they are in are turning people with out of state plates away unless they are going to work at an essential business, have a medical appointment, or need to pick up a prescription. You aren't even allowed to shop there if you are from out of state.
So I am bailing on Easter this year. I'm not religious, although I usually did go to church with my mom on Easter for her sake. By the way, her church is closed. They are live streaming too. After we always met up with the extended family for brunch and later, I used to organize the kid's egg hunt (they are plastic eggs and you need to find your next egg by following a clue, you can't just grab any egg you see. The last egg has your prize). It's a nice family event where I get to see everyone. But I will be staying at home, with my daughter this year. I have an Easter basket for her (even though she's a teen) and I will make something special for brunch for us. I guess I have to wait until Thanksgiving to see the whole family together again.
What aspect of Easter requires you to actually go anywhere? I'm doing Church services at home for my family because my Church told me to. If we want to do an Easter egg hunt (which has never made any sense to me), we have a backyard for that. We can order plastic eggs, real eggs, Easter candy, and a ham from Walmart and pick it up without even setting foot inside the store.
At a time so many are dying - and there is so much uncertainty about jobs and livelihoods- I’ll be praying from home - put some Gospel and thank God for mercy and grace. There will be no ham or green bean casserole- we will face time and be grateful we are all well - We can delay Easter until Thanksgiving - no biggie
