This was a good chance for Ingraham to bring up her claims but she clammed up, still it didn't go well for her. This is where real science meets up with the Fox News conspiracy wing.

Quote:
Fauci repeatedly dismissed Ingraham’s dodgy premises in an interview that reinforced how punditry like Ingraham’s has flown in the face of what health officials are saying.
Perhaps the most glaring problem with her interview with Fauci is that she didn’t even bring up the models that she has repeatedly attacked and offered as evidence of an overzealous response. Nor did she reiterate her past suggestions that Fauci has inappropriately taken over the decision-making process in the federal government.

Well no Laura this is different,” he said. “HIV/AIDS is entirely different. We don’t have a vaccine for HIV/AIDS but we have a spectacularly effective treatment. People who invariably would have died years ago right now leading essentially normal lives. SARS is a different story. SARS disappeared.”

He added of her premise: “So, I think it’s a little bit misleading, maybe, to compare what we are going through now with HIV or SARS. They’re really different.”

Laura Ingraham is a hack. She should have been fired for attacking David Hodges and reveling in him not getting into Harvard. Sadly she works at Fox News where that is liked and conservatives love saying that too. I may not like Dr. Fauci as much because he seemingly became another glad handing Trump yes man, but he put Ingraham in her place

Where is the actual interview, rather than WAPOs windbag commenting on it?

I get Hannity and Limbaugh and even O'Reilly. I can't stand listening to them but I get it. They are clever. They know how to manipulate information for their arguments and do it well. There is no denying it. They know how to spin and don't get themselves caught in interviews like this.

I don't get Ingraham's appeal. She is just not that clever, says some of the most ridiculous things. Let it be known -- it isn't her views -- it's how she expresses them or the arguments she uses to back them up.

And yes -- when citing an interview always go to the source. all the time on this board someones posts a link from wapo or breitbart talking about an interview and inevitably it isn't what you think it is...always go to the source...glad to see folks asking for the original.

Oh my God, why did she bother to make the HIV and Covid-19 comparison? HIV is not even transmitted by droplet.

If I was the interviewer, I'd make the Pneumonia and covid-19 comparison. I'd ask, "Dr Fauci, It looks like Pneumonia is a lung infection caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi. Some of these germs do spread from person to person. So what makes COVID-19 so unique and we must lock down almost the entire country." I'd ask this kind of questions and see how he would answer that.

by the way, love Dr. F. He's a true gentleman and an expert. His skill of risk communication is superb.

Yes he is just so calm and professional.

I wish she did ask about the swine flu comparison.

first 102 days of the 2009 H1N1 43,677 illnesses and 302 deaths
first 80 days of Covid19 490,000 illnesses and 18,000 deaths

Ingraham chose not to use the standard Fox News preface “ some people are saying...”

I too admire Dr F’s communication skill.
