There are scientists out there that are adamant this current COVID-19 strain could not have come from a lab due to the mutations involved. It is something I have posted about before. However, what these scientists are not addressing is that the virus itself could somehow have gotten out of the lab during testing prior to even conducting tests on the virus that would have changed its mutations.
What was before a crackpot theory, is now definitely gaining more credibility as the days go by. It's not so much the Chinese government releasing it as a bioweapon, but trying to show off and one up the U.S. in terms of identifying and fighting viruses as an 'equal,' and then the virus somehow escaping into the public. The wet market origin theory seems less likely as well.
There is increasing confidence that the COVID-19 outbreak likely originated in a Wuhan laboratory, though not as a bioweapon but as part of China's attempt to demonstrate that its efforts to identify and combat viruses are equal to or greater than the capabilities of the United States, multiple sources who have been briefed on the details of early actions by China's government and seen relevant materials tell Fox News.
This may be the "costliest government cover-up of all time," one of the sources said.
The sources believe the initial transmission of the virus – a naturally occurring strain that was being studied there – was bat-to-human and that "patient zero" worked at the laboratory, then went into the population in Wuhan.
For me, Fux as a (crackpot) news source puts the OP quoted statement in doubt. Show me a peer-reviewed paper and maybe it will gain some credibility.
Distinction should be made between a weaponized virus and a naturally-occurring virus. Studies indicate COVID-19 most closely resembles the latter. It may be that the lab is the source, but if so it appears to be from a sample collected from the wild. We may never know the actual source, but then again I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually find a close matching progenitor candidate.

Ha ha. Sorry, no, this stupid "Chinese Lab" theory has been thoroughly debunked.
"An analysis of public genome sequence data from SARS-CoV-2 and related viruses found no evidence that the virus was made in a laboratory or otherwise engineered." -- Scripps Research Institute, a highly respected independent non-profit medical research foundation. Science Daily
Shame on Fox "news" for pushing this conspiracy crap.

Outbreak originated does not equal "made in". Grow up

I don't think anybody is saying it was engineered or man made. The idea is that it was in the bats that were being studied in the lab, and than passed down to a worker. No mention anywhere that I know of about the virus being man made.
