"Didn't Trump say" - which day of the week did the flip flopper say it while he was trolling the loony left?

welcome to my word

The reopening will apparently include movie theaters, hair salons, dine-in restaurants and churches, not to mention office buildings, factories, warehouses, etc.

I live in Texas and this decision will be broadly supported and popular here. There will still be safeguards in place and of course no business is required to reopen if they do not want to.

Well done, Governor Abbott!
"Abbott is apparently reopening the state in earnest", I heard what he said and it WILL be incremental with LOTS of "guidelines".

That clerk also told me that he had recently had his first robbery re changes resulting from the pandemic. He knew that because the robber told him so, that he was doing it because he lost his job in the wake of the pandemic response. He said the guy said he had a gun, and that he gave him what was in the till ($40 some odd dollars).

Because what every country needs, during an emergency or war, is a leader, who stands tall and speaks to the American people, when support, guidance, and their empathy is needed..... is one who trolls or is being sarcastic.

Yes, just like Patton, Lincoln, or Washington.

I'm using a long, clean, black towel folded in half lengthwise, and then folded in half again. I can't breathe completely normally with it on. I was toying with attempting to go in that second convenience store without a mask on, but I couldn't see the LEO inside the patrol car near the gas bays to suss out the situation (to see if the LEO was wearing a mask, etc) so, to make the likelihood of getting the fine as close to zero as possible (given the parameters), I put my 'mask' on to enter.

OK, this should be interesting. A gym owner in Montgomery County (Northwest suburb county of Houston MTA) has announced he is reopening his gym and he does not believe there is any way for the state to stop him.

Quote:
Montgomery County gym vows to reopen Thursday, despite Gov. Abbott's order

On April 26, the gym put out a Facebook post that said it will open on April 30 at 8 a.m., despite Abbott's order. The gym will have been closed for 40 days at that time.

The post said the gym will enforce and monitor social distancing standards. In a post on April 27, the gym said "We don’t need your permission to open! We are more than capable of being safe during this time. We are opening. You don’t want to come, then stay at home."

On Tuesday, Montgomery County Judge Mark J. Keough said he isn't sure how he's expected to enforce Gov. Greg Abbott's plan on reopening Texas businesses.
Governor Abbott actually addressed this in his press conference. These businesses are licensed to operate in the state of Texas and the state has the authority to shut them down if they refuse to comply with state laws and regulations.

While there is actually no broad statewide "business license" in Texas, there are a wide variety of licenses and certificates that have to be maintained for purposes of public health, sales tax collection, professional licensing, retail occupancy, and quite a few other reasons. If anyone thinks that the governor or the county judges cannot work this process to enforce legal compiance, they are probably wrong.

But will they? Here we have a test of wills. Montgomery county is pretty conservative. Will anyone try to crack down on this guy? I am interested to see, but I would not bet on it.

Also, while this gentleman has the honor of being one of the first to challenge this order (which keeps his business entirely closed until further notice) he is not at all likely to be the last.

Yep. Some of the county judges (chief bureaucratic leader for a county - not a courtroom judge) are publicly announcing they will not enforce adherence to the limitations of Governor Abbott's plan.

Quote:
As Texas Gov. Greg Abbott phases in reopening, some in his party are testing his rules

But beyond the normal political pressures emanating from Austin, Abbott is also having to deal with local officials pushing the envelope. Last week, the mayor of Colleyville temporarily allowed restaurants with patio seating and hair salons to open, seemingly at odds with the governor’s order. Colleyville Mayor Richard Newton said he communicated with a deputy attorney general and general counsel for the state and was told he didn’t have to change his order, which will be amended again Friday to align with Abbott’s latest directive.

On Tuesday, Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough said he would allow all businesses to reopen Friday, including barbershops and gyms, criticizing Abbott’s new order as “uncommonly vague.”

Hood County Attorney Matt Mills said Wednesday he would not prosecute a business for defying Abbott’s orders, calling them “unjust and unconstitutional.” The city of Dallas is suing a hair salon owner after she defiantly opened her business — a direct violation of her city and county’s ordinance. In Tarrant County, a “Honkeytonk Crawl for Freedom” is planned in the Fort Worth Stockyards on Friday.
Of course the state can still do it. Or, the state can move to force the county judges to do it. Or the state can just blow it off, especially if the county is not having an actual hospital oriented overload crisis associated with the coronavirus - which would practically speaking make a lot of sense.
