Sure, especially conservatives who came up with the idea in the first place. Free market capitalism was popular. Not so much anymore, especially among Trump supporters.
What was the word on the street at the time, especially from non political people.
I'm not talking about the government or the politically minded, just yourselves and the average people you know.
Did they support it or not?
Has their (or yours) opinion on the matter changed since?
I did, and I was wrong. I agreed with Bill Clinton, Newt Gingrich and Rush Limbaugh, when I should have listened to Ross Perot, Pat Buchanan and Jesse Jackson. They were right.
Bush 1 signed it, subject to approval by Congress.
Congress passed it. Clinton signed it.
I trend free trade.
"Free Trade" I can understand. Off-shoring to places with borderline slave labor, no environmental laws, patent theft etc. not so much.
Blue collar laborers lost the most from NAFTA, others like myself got stuff cheaper without taking the income hit so I guess winning depends where you sit at the table.
The irony of course was that when my jobless uncles that were straight ticket dems revolted over the off-shoring and on-shoring (illegal labor) they suddenly got branded "racists" and a lot of young people and unaffected suburban professionals gobbled it up, because those that were upset...they're uneducated and um...white.
