As kids growing up in Eastern Pa, we were told to learn to speak properly, get a good education, and pull ourselves up from working class to professional class. Our parents worked two and three jobs to make sure we had the ability to get that education because they did not want us to be working two and three jobs. We were taught to both esteem the work that all people do and to try to move into areas that we did not need to work so hard for so little.
In the last few weeks I watched candidates trying to pretend they were just like plain folks! They are not just like plain folks, they are people who have worked to get to the top of their game and want to lead all of the different folks. I don't know about you, but I never wanted to put that much energy into job hunting! Can we not, as voters, applaud them for the work they have done to prepare themselves in a myriad of ways to vie for the top spot in the government? Rather than expecting them to be " just like us."
