The state and local government forced handover of small business value to corporate balance sheets. By the state and local government over reaction of forcing businesses to shut down for as long as they did, it has and will essentially end our favorite small local mom & pop businesses and hand their customers over to the remaining big businesses that have the infrastructure to expand even more.
So many of the people who have been in favor of keeping everything shut down as long as they could possibly get away with it are the same people who love local mom & pop business and absolutely hate big businesses. By supporting the shutdowns, they have essentially screwed what they loved and supported what they hate.
The irony of this will most certainly be in the history books one day. I love my local small businesses. It is a shame that so many of them across the country will now be gone and as a result, we will have even more crappy chain stores and restaurants.
I've made an extra effort to support mom/pop businesses. Everything from local hot sauce, to BBQ seasonings from Memphis.
Good Morning America has been highlighting businesses that lost their brick and mortar customers. THese businesses have sold out their inventory within 48 hrs.
I've spent money I would not have spent........
Perhaps the messaging from our govt. could have been that kind of focus. IT's been fun. We've had lots of fun enjoying some of the most innovative businesses.

No, clearly history will remember the 100,000 plus who have died and will die. These are the first and real victims.

Excellent point. As a matter of fact, Florida has been messaging this on the airwaves. Many support local ads. We have been doing our part to not only give as much business as possible to local restaurants via take-out as possible, but tip tip 40% to help cover some of the loss. Doing what we can.
And all because we chose to ignore the scientists and health professionals who have been warning us for decades that something like this would come along.
