Mattis and Sessions should never have been nominated in the first place. When it became clear that Trump would not simply toe the party line, guys like Sessions, Bolton and Mattis served no purpose and only served to create divisions in the White House.
Wait a second. Who picked Mattis and Sessions? Its funny how a Trumper can criticize Mattis and Sessions but not the person who hired them. Trump hired Bolton because he liked him on TV. Same for Guiliani and Kudlow.
Before I became self employed I was in management for several years. I was defined by who I hired. And these are career government employees with a long track record and paper trail, not entry level hires I would often have to hire. Somehow Trump gets a pass?
Trump went up against an onslaught from the media, and the political left began its "resistance" the moment Trump took office. How can you unite the nation under those circumstances? The left refused from the very beggining to accept Trump as president.
Trump has not done a very good job picking people for his administration, but there are so many Neocons and RINOS left in the Republican party, and they're still a big threat to our nation.
Mattis wanted to expand a US war in Syria, so I'm glad Trump rejected his proposals.

Yep this line of thinking baffles me also. Trump says campaigned that he would only hire the best. His administration has been a revolving door. The cheer is new hires and condemned them when they don't work out. Oddly the never question the hiring manager for making so many bad hires. Trump logic at it's best.
Our liberal posters carry on as if Mattis had endorsed Biden.
