Totalitarians (left and right, Communist, Baathist, Nazi) all are usually great at it. Yet, few people in this country want that kind of government. Nevertheless, you can only take insistence on order so far before it ends up being regimented to the point of "killing" the Constitution.
As said by Inspector Callahan in Dirty Harry (paraphrasing here) who lectured some overzealous rookie cops. What's next, shooting people for jaywalking? Or because somebody's dog pissed on their neighbor's lawn?
How low a crime level (crime rate or crime severity) is too low to insist on before the cops start violating human rights? How much crime (again, rate or severity) must we be willing to tolerate in order to prevent these all-powerful police, drunk or spoiled by their power, to start suppressing our civil liberties?
Something to think about, given the events of the past week.

Who knows what the protesters want. I don't think they have an idea what could be done to prevent the next police shooting short of removing cops from the community and giving minority people a pass on crimes they commit.
What we need to do is bring back morals and personal responsibility. We should all strive to live by the golden rule and that is to, do to others what you would have them do to you. If we all lived by that mantra there would be zero crime.
