Apparently some people aren't smart enough to understand what "defund" the police means - an unfortunate choice of terms, but it doesn't mean "no police".
Many of them DO want that as their end goal.
Regardless of that though.. medical mistakes are one of the leading causes of death in this country. Should we defund and re-imagine health care too?
In either example, does anyone seriously believe that whatever we cobble together to replace them will be BETTER and not create MORE problems?
Home At 3am in the morning. Who are you going to call? Without the police how will you protect yourself and your family especially if you don’t own a firearm.
The police. Defunding doesn’t mean zero. It is t literal. It means deploying the right person for the call. That is not a police officer for most. Why are we calling police for drug ODs, mental issues, homeless people, kids cutting school ....

yep. it's simply supporting alternative crime prevention methods in addition to a physical police presence so that presence can be reduced. it's not abolishing the police department ( altho i'm sure there are some extremists that are crying for just that ). but your right, the phrase doesn't express that clearly and this thread is the proof of that.

Call the police. Nobody is talking about doing away with law enforcement. You should really quit scaring yourselves with untruths like this.

prevent from continuing to receive funds.
Saying defund is a lot catchier and easier to say then "deploy police when they are the best solution to solve the problem, and fund the department that solve the problems the police aren't the best solution for."

The problem with those scenarios is the lack of authority.
For example...
Let's say some punk high school kids are cutting school and hanging out in a creek, and a social worker is called out, what happens when the punk kids tell the SW to screw off? Now that? All the SW can do is keep asking them to go to school...
Same scenario with all the types of people you mentioned.
