I am as against bad cops and brutality as much as anyone but I believe the overwhelming majority of police are good people doing a very difficult job. Morale must be terrible lately with calls to defund them and this narrative that stereotypes them ALL as being bad. Some local businesses, like a famous donut shop in the area are showing how *woke* they are buy no longer giving discounts to police and military
I sent an email of support to my local PD. Wondering what else I can do. I'd like to order them food but with the recent case with Shake Shack, I'm wondering if they'd be wary of a food delivery. Maybe gift card from dominos or a coffee place?
A lot of cops become really cynical after a while...dealing with the crap they deal with.
I think sometimes a "good cop" can end up being a "not so good" cop simply because they are sick of dealing with stuff. Even if it is an isolated event.

Yeah, I imagine so. It's your job to deal with the worst of society on a regular basis. I can imagine that would get to you. Then if you do everything right and by the book, you can still get in trouble.
Bad cops are in part a symptom of bad laws, which would be any law where there is no victim or complainant. Think any vice or prohibition laws.
Since all cops are tasked with and willingly choose to enforce such laws, this means there are no good cops.
Our police are very good and show great concern for our community. There have been protests, but they have been peaceful. The police even hand out water bottles. They post on Facebook about what they're doing and I have started to reply and thank them specifically when they do or accomplish something in a particularly kind, safe, or peaceful way.
Transparency and accountability will decrease animosity. Bodycams are a good start. Consequences for turning them off/"losing" the footage. Stop trying to mess with people taking video of police interactions. Less PITA interactions like speed traps or arbitrarily low speed limits that are just there to generate revenue and have no relation to public safety. More judicious use of deadly force. More judicious use of force in general. Train cops to not be dicks to people. Train cops to default to de-escalation before resorting to force. Reform drug laws and other victimless crime laws in general(if people want to harm themselves... let them)
