E.U. May Bar American Travelers as It Reopens Borders, Citing Failures on Virus

We would do the same thing, and did. We dropped the ball, and allowed the pandemic to re-emerge, and other countries do not want to see the same.

My parents still have their Greece trip planned for early August, I wonder if they'll be able to even go if the EU doesn't open up their borders by then

That's unlikely. However, the ban is only on travelers coming from the U.S., not U.S. citizens coming from other countries. The countries outside the EU currently allowed access are Algeria, Australia, Canada, Georgia, Japan, Montenegro, Morocco, New Zealand, Rwanda, Serbia, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisia and Uruguay. With Canada being off limits, their best best would be go to Serbia first and then onwards to Greece. There's a direct flight between New York JFK and Belgrade. All COVID-19 related entry restrictions are currently lifted for both Serbian and foreign citizens.

unless those that called Trump xenophobic for the China travel ban also call the EU xenophobic for their ban..they are hypocrites.

Europe is overrated. There are far more interesting places in the world to visit.
