For those who think of themselves as on the left in their politics, do you believe the FAR left, extremist side wants to destroy America, enact socialism and eliminate freedom of speech or expression? Are you concerned?
If you listen to any right wing media, you would think this is the end times and unless we vote for Trump, we are all going to be living in George Orwell's 1984 in short order.
So take Trump out of the equation. If you are left leaning, are you concerned about the radical left and what would happen if they gained more power or is this overblown?
Does it bother you that our universities don't seem to teach a diversity of IDEAS anymore and our young people are never forced to challenge or defend their beliefs or positions? Or is that overblown and exaggerated also?
I think I know how the rightwing feels about this, I'd love to hear from the left.

This is a question I ask many leftists as well.
How in the hell could any sane person support a party that condones the creation of anarchy and violence in the US?
They then say the party does not condone such activities, yet the actions of democrats around the country as well as statements from dem national leaders says otherwise.

The communists have been hiding among the Democrats for generations and used the the educational campus to
indoctrinate resulting in young adults reminiscent today of religious extremists. The left has taken on all anti-American
groups for their voting power but now unfortunately have lost control and these small groups have now worked their way
into White House which was not part of their plan.
There are many bad things one can say about President Donald Trump, and I would agree but one thing I do strongly
believe. He knows what is going on. He knows our country is in serious trouble. He knows that this is a pivotal time
in America as we know it and he is desperately trying to save the United States by taking down this greatest of evils.
All the cards are on the table. The Democrats know it. It is do or die come November. They will not let up...They have
not let up. They would rather bring America to its knees than lose to President Donald Trump......only time will tell...

Can I answer as an Independent? The far left is just as loony as the far right. Extremes in ideology and fanaticism are never a good thing. For example, trying to erase our history by destroying statues of presidents because they owned slaves? A myopic, fanatical view that discards everything else that was good. The far right gun toting tough guys that give a rats arse if someone's child is killed in favor of perverting the second amendment into something it's not. Equally as myopic and disturbing.
Fact: White supremacists terrorism is on the rise. It's not Antifa. It's the lunatic fringe on the right.

There's a new group on the far right called the Boogaloo Boys that are trying to bring about a civil war.
Antifa is not innocent. They are most likely involved with the rioting and looting. Both "have turned violence and mayhem into signature tactics." Source: The Hill "Why it's likely to be antifa, not neo-Nazis, behind the anarchy in America's streets."
To say one side is wrong and not the other? Hypocritical, tribal, myopic, wrong.
Am I concerned with the fanaticism on both sides? Yes. I also believe in our constitution and our democratic republic.
We are a representative democracy. That means that everyone has a voice and a vote. The problem comes from the lack of respect on both sides, the corruption, and the pollution that that causes.
Our political system is broken. Our laws written by lobbyists, and politicians? All just puppets to big money.
How did this happen? Because we the people let it happen, and we the people can fix it. There's a reason why politicians like uneducated people. We owe it to our country to be informed voters and not just vote with the cult of personality.
The lunatic fringe on both sides? They'll have their 15 minutes of fame. I believe that most American's want the best of both sides, not the worst of both sides.
I'd be concerned with the fringe extremists on either end. They're all a bit wacko.
But for now, that's all they are: fringe extremists. To the loudest (and most obnoxious) conservatives, anyone left of right center is a leftist and possibly a wild-eyed Communist.
Ridiculous projection. Socialism (meaning communal/gov't ownership of means of production) has been given to us by Republicans in the forms of gov't stock ownership with bailouts. The 1st amendment is under attack right now by the current administration and by police going after press at protests. Not to mention they have an official platform that calls for the removal of rights(gay marriage).
I'm not sure the far left wants to destroy the US, but they certainly help to do that, just as the far right in this country does. What the US desperately needs, politically speaking, is good hard doses of pragmatism, rationality, and moderation.
But moderation has never been the US's strong suit. It's a land of ideological extremes, and it hurts itself most of all by its refusal to respond calmly to anything.
You guys often complain about the "types" of immigrants the US receives; that they usually come from poor, desperate, war-torn, and/or highly authoritarian countries. You wonder why the US "can't accept" better educated immigrants from countries with cultures more closely aligned with that of the US.
Well, I wonder, "why would people from peaceful, relatively affluent, well-run countries choose the US?" Because the Western world watches in shock the constant drama in the US, and the only people who seem to consider the US some kind of sanctuary are those mostly from countries even more nuts than the US.
And then there are immigrants from stable countries, like me (in my case, Canada) who DID choose to come to the US, but sometimes wonder why the heck we did. Left and right extremism in the US make it an exhausting place to engage with. They both destroy what is, ultimately, a great, wonderful, beautiful country, but one that suffers from serious, chronic illness. America is bipolar.
