Yes there are photos of a broken gate. There is also an extensive video of the protesters entering through a gate being held open and the testimony of a news reporter who was covering the protest that the gate was not damaged.
And it is unclear whether they did or did not have a right to enter. Again does one violate some law if they walk up your walk to your front door? Is it required that one have an explicit permission to do so? Or is it accepted that one may approach a home for a legitimate reason? And telling the Mayor what the group wants would seem a very legitimate reason.
What is even more concerning is that these people feel aiming a gun at protesters is a proportionate and reasonable response to protesters trespassing a private road to get to the mayor’s house. What is wrong with these trigger-happy people? This is a true social ill that needs attention.

Given what's happening in some of the more progressive areas I'd be a little nervous if a band of strangers showed up on my property uninvited and unannounced.
Just make sure you know the law, precisely. You sound a bit anxious.
We used to own acreage and had no trespassing signs but we'd catch people trespassing and even hunting on it. We didn't pull guns on them. Also have had kids crossing the yard and some homeless guy opened the fence gate and came in the back yard to ask us for money. Didn't pull gun. When did it become acceptable to shoot trespassers, lol, not in too many places. Prison is not a fun place to be cowboys and girls.
What you decide to do with trespassers is up to you. How is that relevant?
How many angry mobs have you had trespassing on your acreage shortly after violent protests burned down/vandalized multiple locations?

Of course you know 'one violate some law if they walk up your walk to your front door' and 'angry mob descends on private community' are not the same and as usual, argue in bad faith.

Nope. No sign that group was angry or dangerous. They were apparently being managed and monitored by local clergy. They were in fact warning the protesters of the armed couple at the gate.
And again where in the trespass or other statute does it call out the temperment of a person with respect to trespass or similar?
You NEVER ever aim a gun at people, like both of them did, unless you are ready to fire, and shoot to kill. These people were reckless as hell. They paint a picture of the most entitled members of society. Guns are serious business, these are smart people but acting stupid, so the only thing is they just feel above it all entitled to act reckless. If they were "scared" they never would have come out of that house.
No argument there. (But there may be some question about whether or not that was illegal per Missouri's Castle Doctrine and Stand you Ground laws)
But many are arguing the scenerio as if the two had actually fired on the crowd.
Castle Doctrine does not extend to the common areas of a community, so if you defend it with firearms (whether or not you fire them) you could end up in legal trouble.
Not sure why you even argue it, since you know I am right.
Is there any particular reason you'd want to encourage people to do things which might put them in legal trouble?
So why are you talking about "mowing down" people?
The way these two handled their guns makes any responsible gun owner cringe.......but they didn't shoot anyone.
And Castle Doctrines differ from one state to the next.
The New York Post reports McCloskey and his wife are now under investigation.
St. Louis Prosecutor Kimberly Gardner said, “I am alarmed at the events that occurred over the weekend, where peaceful protestors were met by guns.”
She added, “We must protect the right to peacefully protest, and any attempt to chill it through intimidation or threat of deadly force will not be tolerated,” she insisted, saying her office was “currently working with the public and police to investigate these events. Make no mistake: we will not tolerate the use of force against those exercising their First Amendment rights, and will use the full power of Missouri law to hold people accountable,”
