I was not referring to any one battle. The army of the Confederate States of America (the rebs aka the rebels - a rebel is a person guilty of rebellion) took up arms against the Union (the United States) and national government of President Abraham Lincoln. Simple.
Just checking back in after many more posts, but the South took up arms in DEFENSE. How in the world do you have a war if you are not invaded? If Lincoln did not invade, there would have been no war.
As you say, Simple.
I don't see how you can twist it around in any way.
It is interesting that not many Jewish people are even aware of why some of the choices for this flag, were chosen in the first place...maybe they would change their opinion if more knew the facts about it? I think that is very likely!
Well, think about this. A lion's share of Jewish immigration came here in the years after the Civil War. Chances are, most Jews in America don't have relatives who were here during the Civil War, much less fought in the Civil War.
Here in rural Pennsylvania, I see many, many Confederate flags...and it's about as far from Dixie as you can get. Here, it's a rebellious mindset...people don't want diversity and multiculturalism forced on them for D & M's sake. They don't want to be forced to be PC, "woke", or embrace the liberal idiology. It's just their way of giving the "finger" to all that. Plus, many definitely ARE racist and will freely admit it.

All the more reason for me to associate the Confederate flag with racism. All the more reason I hate the Confederate flag, and have no respect for those who fly it.
To you, perhaps it is.........to many others it is most definitely not. Last time I looked, you weren't the emperor of the universe, so back off and mind your own business.......

I'm from PA too, and this is exactly what I was thinking. Back in the 60s and 70s bikers used to wear Nazi regalia for the same reason: they saw it as a way of being a bad-assed rebel, of setting themselves apart from "mainstream" society and of pissing off people who they don't like.

And I would have hated those persons too for the same reason. I don't respect anyone who wears Nazi regalia or Confederate regalia. To me they are both horrible. I think I would be among those said "rebels" don't like.

It's simple common sense.
Last I checked, the Confederacy drew first blood when they offensively attacked Ft Sumter.....
Nostalgic for who? Last I check, the majority of African-Americans are southerners. I don't see many African-Americans being nostalgic for the old days of the South.
just to provide some data to your point...

Regions
Of all the people who reported as Black in Census 2000, 54 percent lived in the South, 19 percent lived in the Midwest, 18 percent lived in the Northeast and 10 percent lived in the West.
The region with the highest proportion of people reporting Black as a percentage of its total population was the South (20 percent), followed by the Northeast (12 percent), the Midwest (11 percent), and the West (6 percent).

In my little rural PA town, you can see the Confederate flag flown from flagpoles (on private property), painted on barns and sheds, on the backs of pickup trucks, and draped from the windows of houses (otherwise nice single family homes).
It represents more than pissing off people...I think it's more a declaration of "you're not going to tell ME how/what to think!!!"
