I oppose capital punishment because the government gets it wrong too often. The state murdering an innocent person because they couldn’t afford effective counsel is horrendous. A capital case should have incontrovertible evidence, but that is not always the case.
I think rather that you oppose capital punishment because you have never had anyone close to you raped and murdered. Sound about right?
Most of the western/developed nations abolish capital punishment, but why we are still doing it? Why, there is no mercy or 2nd chance in US? He was 18 when he committed that crime. https://abc13.com/billy-joe-wardlow-...virus/6306977/
Where is the mercy and 2nd chance for his victim? Fry the POS.
Dewayne Michael Carey, 59, died at an outside hospital, the agency announced. He had been on death row since 1996, after being convicted of first-degree murder in Los Angeles County.
Scott Thomas Erskine, 57, who had been on death row since 2004, and Manuel Machado Alvarez, 59, on death row since 1989, both died on Friday at outside hospitals, the department said.
Ironic that it takes the Chinavirus to bring the justice our pathetic excuse for a "justice system" won't. I hope this finally brings the families some peace. Hope they died miserably.
It would make fiscal sense if they would conduct the execution in a timely manner.
On an average it costs taxpayers anywhere from to $2 million to $3 million to put someone on Death Row. They are guaranteed 12 appeals before being executed, which could take 10+ before being executed. Far cheaper to just give them life without parole. But the lawyers who are profiting from it would not be happy with that!
I would be very amenable to abolishing the death penalty if we off-shored our penal system, to cost effective 3rd and 4th world countries that used hard physical labor as part of the punishment. No TVs, no radio, no Internet just the sound of silence, and 12 hours a day of hard labor seven days a week.
And I do not mean only in capital cases. For those who would eventually be released I could see 6-8 hours a day of hard labor and 2-4 hours a day of rehabilitation education/counseling/skill development/anger management etc.
That would potentially deter crime.
There's untold number of people behind bars, even Death Row, who are innocent, who haven't had the luck of being cleared by DNA evidence, or didn't have a lawyer as good as OJ Simpson had. You read about it occasionally, some man released after serving 30-40 years in prison.
Off shore to a 3rd or 4th world country. Well, we've already become a 3rd world country!

Like it or not, a lot of people need to get back at murderers by giving them the death penalty. To me, the death penalty allows murderers from having to feel anymore punishment.
I think at 18, the brian is not fully developed. Very sad tale.
But at that age, you know right from wrong, and understand the finality of death.
He killed someone in cold blood. He deserved to pay with his life.
