We need Puerto Rico for the strategic location in the middle of the Caribbean.
Many of the southern Caribbean banana republics receive much of their commerce from Puerto Rico, and food is also distributed from there.
We need to keep this stronghold in case of war. Possession of Puerto Rico also gives us power over many countries in the region.
I have friends that are Puerto Ricans and live in Tennessee. They're non-Spanish speaking. Their cousins "back home" are Spanish only speakers. And they do have family reunions from time to time that are downright hilarious with cousins speaking with hand signals.
Go to Puerto Rico, and you'll also find families speaking English as the primary language. Let me just say being a teacher in Puerto Rico must be tough. They don't know what they are--English, Spanish, NewYorican or Spanglish speakers.

The US already has strategic bases in the Carribean. The western part of the near Aguadilla was home to much of the US military. Its since been vacated and has become rundown.
