I wonder if he is doing it to try and exert control over the state? Or maybe it's a political differentiator? The mask enforcement is likely in Democrat-controlled locales.
Even the die-hard Trump supporters are starting to peel off his base. You can only be conned for so long.
If he holds a "mask-free" celebration in Jacksonville next month, he'll lose even more supporters both "literally and figuratively". Start playing the Who's "Won't get fooled Again".
Has he lost his mind? Has he thoughts within his head?
We'll just pass him there
Why should we even care? Nobody wants him
They just turn their heads
Nobody helps him
Now he has his revenge

Kemp just loves to dis-enfranchise as many voters as he can. He'd be really happy if only the Governor could vote.
Some southern states give their legislatures heavy-handed control over what individual municipalities can do and thus a state-wide policy shuts down any local control. YMMV!
"The governor has said he believes requiring masks are a 'bridge too far' and that such a mandate is unenforceable. Instead, he's forcefully urged Georgians to don face coverings and warned not doing so threatens the college football season."
He's not really being anti-mask. Just anti-mandate. But overruling locals should have been a bridge too far too.
This is exactly right. Yet the headline gawkers from afar are only seizing on his override of unenforceable local face mask laws. They are essentially toothless, virtue signaling anyway.
Governor Kemp has strongly encouraged the wearing of face masks during the C-19 outbreak, stopping short of mandating.
The fine point is do we live a country that values freedom of choice, yet strongly encourages the best action? Or do we live in an illiberal society that curtails and limits freedom, such a the cancel culture displays ever day?
The forgoing from a mask wearing - by choice - conservative.
As to the mention of threatening of football season, in all of the South collegiate football is a socially important rallying point. Much surrounds college football Saturdays, beyond the game itself. Smart man to appeal to what is important to the citizens.

Good! I voted for him! Want to wear a mask GO AHEAD be my guest, you won't dictate to me that I have to wear one though.
Unless you go into a place of business that requires that you do.
