Not much is 100% effective in this world. Vaccines aren't. Condoms aren't. Seat belts aren't. But we use them because it mitigates unwanted outcomes. The main difference between coronavirus and car accidents and sex is that you can self-mitigate the last two. You can choose to be celibate (rape aside). You can choose to not drive a car (depending on where you live, it might greatly alter your lifestyle). However, you can't choose to NOT engage in activities that will subject you to coronavirus. Everyone needs to eat. Unless you are a subsistence farmer or something, you will have to engage with other humans possibly carrying the virus.
