"Similarly, a New York Times/Siena College poll recently asked whether people prefer a presidential candidate who focuses on the cause of the protests — even when the protests go too far — or whether they want someone who focuses mostly on getting tough on unruly protesters. Voters this time chose the former by an even more lopsided margin, 63-31 percent — nearly 2 to 1."

Are you really that blinded by your hate of Trump to be completely ignorant to what has happened ? And still is ? Wow.

Video after video is proof of what is happening , and yet you think it's a ruse ?

Of course, Trump has been focusing on the cause of the "protests" for his entire tenure as President: the fake news media.

"Media" is a generaous term. It implies journalism.

The reality is that the "media" are instead political and revolutionary propagandists, full stop.

"Media" (plural of medium) means things in the middle, things that come between, and the term accordingly is perfectly fitting. The media stand between us and the real world for the purpose of distorting our view of it.

That is their primary role. Nice etymology.

This is an example of an increasingly common apocalyptic thread that runs through right-wing thought and pronouncements. The right seems to be awakening to the fact that they are on the wrong side of history -- all is lost. It is just a matter of time so WTF, take what you can while you can. Amass a personal arsenal in the basement. Voter suppression and gerrymandering is the way to postpone the end. Support repressive actions as much as possible. If that means supporting militia groups, fascists, neo-nazis, white supremacists -- well, so be it. Obama scared the daylights out of them. The sheet is coming off more and more and we are seeing the right-wingers for what they are -- scared little beings in search of a savior. Trump was the savior that failed -- only Trump could fix things, as he said so often, except he couldn't. He intentionally used the religious right, bible photo ops, and terms like "the chosen one" to keep the savior lie going. He was only saving himself and his all-important Trump brand.

There are no do-overs in history. There is no inherent privilege of reliving the past. The right-wingers long for the good old days of 1970 or maybe earlier. That was before Reagan. We were stuck in a Cold War and a hot war in Vietnam. We had the draft. Minorities were in their place. Nixon was President and Watergate was coming. Nixon actually was a crook and Reagan and Trump were the two biggest frauds to ever serve in the presidency...all Republicans, by the way. If, in fact, the "country is going down" it is because of forces put in place during the Reagan era that crippled the US economy, entrenched corporate power and greed, destroyed the working class, and diluted the American Dream for the middle class. We don't invest in needed infrastructure because -- well, what is the point if it is all for naught? The end is near.

The country today is a foreign land compared to what it was in 1970 but that is what we have to work with. It has all the energy and initiative and innovation that it once had. It has the strength of new blood, new ideas, and diversity. It lacks focus, confidence, solidarity, and a positive vision for the future -- things that Trump worked hard to destroy. Trump sold the fearful apocalyptic vision -- build walls, amass a fortune while you can, divide and suppress the minorities, hate certain unpopular groups, and lie repeatedly and with a constant false message that his base took to heart. In reality, the end is not near but the future is not like the past. The religiously contrived concept of Manifest Destiny energized the country 150 years ago (perhaps in ways that were not all wonderful) and the "Puritan work ethic" kept it striving forward but this notion of apocalypse is weakening it.

Does this look like a ruse to you ? Now I'm sure it is all in a contained area of the city, but even if it's only a block (which it isn't) , how can you say it's a ruse ? Hate Trump all you want, but come on, you've got to see what is going on across the country.

Let's get the full perspective, shall we? Maybe you can stay on topic rather than bringing voters' choices into the mix.
